Dear folks,

I was always trying to turn my Compaq Armada m700 laptop (Pentium III 700, with 320Mb RAM, 10Mb HD, Running Windows 2000) into a mobile recording studio. The problem is that the build in audio of the laptop sucks big time. The sound output (headphone) has too much noise, and so does the sound input. And playing back multiple audio tracks with Vega Pro results in juggling sounds. So I pretty much gave up the dream, and kept thinking that I was wasting the power of this laptop regarding to making music.

Until I read the latest issue of Keyboard magazine (Oct 2001).

On pp.116 it talks about an USB based Audio Interface card, and that really turned me on. The Interface, Emagic emi 2|6 (http://www.emagic.de), seems to work as an external A/D and D/A converter for sound, which is exactly what I need. By by-passing my laptop's build-in sound support, I should be able to get a crystal clear audio recording and playback. Right?

I am new to this kind of External USB Audio Interface. So if someone have more info about this, please let me know. And does anyone know if there's any product similar to this Emagic emi 2|6 ? What should I consider when I buy this kind of USB based Audio Interface?

Got too excited.... must ... claim down ....
