trouble with a sample cd

Hi

don't know if this is the right place but I have a drum sample cd that I got with a music mag and I want to use the samples but a snare sample has 5 samples in the one wave file!?!??! most of them are like this with many samples per one file
there are no other files on the cd like maps or anything
what sort of program could you use these samples with?
do you have to chop up the files to get each sample out? It seems insane to do this , unless there is a program that can do it or somehow make a map

can someone help?

If there are 5 samples of the same drum they are probably intended to be velocity triggered layers. If you don't have a seqencer/sampler capable of using them that way, try this:

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

It's a freeware app called Audacity and it will allow you to cut up those samples into single hits.
