Hello

We've been thinking about trigging our drummers set, unfortunately we know nothing about that, or maybe squat...

OK, we need triggers... Axis ekit has been mentioned... What's best used as a module???.. alesis dm5???

How about wiring??... jacks??

where to?.. PA? mixer?

Anuone got good info??

I would recomend Ddrum triggers.

The best module is the one that has the sounds you like. They all work about the same. Some of them only have 4 outputs. Some of them have a separate output for each drum.

Depending on what you are trying to do, you might want to send separate outputs to the soundguy. That gives him the most control over the mix.

You can get away with having 4 outputs like the DM5. Use one for kick, one for snare, and the other two for stereo toms.

If you want the BEST triggers and the BEST module, you'll be spending well over a thousand dollars, which I'm thinking might not be in your plan. Tell your drummer to try out some electric kits, and note which modules they're using.

If you want to trigger it for the sake of recording you use this

Drumagog

If you want to use it for live application, see the first response you got in the thread.

The Alesis DM5 or DM Pro and DDrum triggers is what every local band I have ever seen uses.

The regular/Pro triggers, not the Red Shot series which are cheaper.

You could probably have the whole setup covered for $400-$500 through Ebay.

Maybe also invest into a Direct Box to plug into a Mixer if the club doesnt already have one. Also good to have for recording.

Just like the other guys said, if your recording, just mic the drums and use Drumagog.

For live sound the DM5 and DDrum Triggers will do the job nicely.

well if x=angle of mic to kick, and y=radius of kick.

its just a matter of

cos(x)^2+2sin(y)^2+cot(2pixy) = trigging your kick

This probably should be in the newbie section but this is along the lines of my question.

I am trying to trigger my kick and snare. The triggers I am using are the DDrum pro snare and kick triggers, and I am using the Roland TD-3 drum module.
My question is, When recording, how do I send the snare trig sound to one track, and the kick trig sound to another seperate track? Right now the kick and snare trig sounds are recording on the same track. How do I seperate them?
Any info is greatly appreciated

Good call but you forget, C= kA/D. The distance has everything to do with it...consider this..., C(ockiness)=k(ick) in the A(ss) divided by the D(istance) of the swing of the boot means...simply,....someone's gonna get hurt :D

The best stand-alone triggering capable module, without question, is the Roland TD-20. It definitely blows the D-4, DM5 out of the water in responsiveness, sensitivity, capability and built-in samples alone. I speak from experience on this one. The only thing better than a TD-20 is a TD-20 with V-expressions expansion module.

If you want to just trigger a 3-4 toms and a single bass drum with a double-pedal then a Roland SPD-S with triggers and uber-custom samples will work as well.

If you want to trigger from MIDI to a PC, then there's other options but the TD-20 is the end-all-be-all for right now in a single module unit. Just accept this as a universal truth for now until Roland comes out with any next-generation units.

If you want to know what triggering options you have available for an acoustic to electric hybrid, go check this link:

I'm not familiar with that module, but with most of them you need to pan the kick to the left and the snare to the right. That way, they come out of their own output. You'll have to read the manual to find out how to do that with your module.

I would as well. I owned a full set of their triggers at one time, along with the DDrum brain. Is was by far the best I ever used, very accurate..

using DMpro to trigger

I have been having issues with my DMpro triggering toms, they can't get a clean sound. I am using Ddrum triggers. the kick and snare come out great. any ideas or am i missing somthing obvious?

Have you played with the gain, xtalk, dec and curve controls?

If you have, you need to tune the drums so they don't ring as badly. Or you need a drummer that hits the things hard enough so the trigger can tell the difference between a hit and rumble.
