Triggers...

I'm resorting to triggers on the drums in my studio. I have not used trigger many times before but if someone could point out what are the best triggers to get, and what is the best trigger module to get it would be greatly appreciated. I've been having a really hard time getting a great kick drum and snare sound. And alot of drummers have been coming into the studio without holes cut in their bass drum and poorly tuned snares. If anyone could give me some advice in this field it would be greatly appreciated!

Radioshack piezo buzzers make great triggers. You have to pull them out of their housings though.

This is the truth. I use them all the time. Cheap. Easy. Put a 10 or 15 db pad on them for sure though.



Other courses of action to take:

Keep a Bass Drum skin with a hole handy at your studio to swap in when a drummer with a solid head comes in.

Simply remove the front drum skin if you can't get one with a hole.

Learn to tune drums yourself. I find this a VITAL skill when recording drums.

If you record digitally, you can replace the accoustic hits with triggered samples long after the performance is done with most any electronic drum brain.

Yeah, you could always use Drumagog.

Ddrum makes the best triggers. Get the good ones, not the Redshots.
If you really want to use a module, they are all about the same. Just pick the one with the sounds and the I/O that you like.

You can always just record the triggers to you DAW and use Drumagog to provide the sounds.
