Triggering MIDI Device From PC

Hello. Can anyone tell me how to trigger the sounds in my drum machine from a midi file in my PC. Do I need some special software or what? I think I have all of the connections I need. But I happen to be "Old School" haha and this MIDI stuff is a new language. Thanks.

You need something that can send the MIDI messages in the MIDI file out the MIDI interface's Out port. This function is part of a typical recording software package, such as Cubase or SONAR. Of course you need a MIDI interface in the computer and at least one MIDI cable as well...
