I have a performance by a drummer in a not-so-perfect environment. I'd at least want snare and kick to be sampled for the final mix, so i have been looking into triggering what i have already. I've been able to get markers off the kick track, but that's about as far as i can get. I've tried to set up midi/drum map but had no success, i can't seem to get the two to talk to each other. Thanks for any input!

From what I understand, cubase 6 has an audio to midi application in it.

I always use drumagog for this sort of thing.

hmm, seems like i should be able to get those markers on the drum editor somehow. i've heard drumagog isn't very cheap..

Try KT Drum Trigger. It is free, and works quite well at triggering MIDI from an audio track.

Check the Cubase manual. I'm not sure which version you are using or which version the ability appeared in Cubase.

Drumagog isn't cheap, but jimmys69 had a cheaper alternative.

KT drum trigger, or on the cheap Aptrigga 2 (apptrigga is just a sample trigger plug, doesn't do midi to my knowledge).

Or ask nice and I'll run it through trigger for you and pop out the midi (well... depending on how many song we are talking here). :)

I appreciate the offer! I'd take you up on it but I need to get it set up on my end, seems like a good thing to have in my bag of tricks. I'll try out the triggering programs. Again thank you for the offer!

If it's something you intend to use on a regular basis. Shelling money for drumagog or trigger isn't a bad idea.

Trigger EX is only $139+iLOK. Well, it was. Seems the original EX is not for sale at the moment. Possibly because SSD4 just came out, and they are updating the samples? IDK.

you could always go old school on its ass and add a track and manually add samples one by one in perfect time with the track... yeah but I suppose you need to sleep / eat in the next two days aswell :P

I got it for $50, black friday.

Just a note. Steven Slate is redoing the purchase page at the moment. Trigger EX will be available again this week.

Yeah I just got trigger EX because I already own Slate Drums plat.

Still trying to get the instrument editor figured out. I have made a kick .tci and made a snare one last night (snare one isn't as impressive as the kick one for some stupid reason).

This is what I use. It's got some super cool features but I just wish the GUI was a bit nicer. There are so many controls my eyes start to hurt when I look at it for extended periods.

Anyway, if you're going to use drum trigger, be sure to strip the silence in between hits. I used to use the built-in filters but found that I got too many miss-triggers due to the varying frequency responses of inconsistent playing dynamics and also because of bleed. To get the most consistent results from KT, strip the silence of the track you wanna trigger. This allows the trigger to be engaged by the true portion of the transient, regardless of frequency response and to a lesser degree, dynamics.

You'll still have to manually draw in a hit here or there but for the most part, it works great.

Cheers :)

i've had pretty good results using the built in noise gate, that got all my markers right on point. i did have to play around with release and hold times but other than a few weak hits it was right on. what about the audio slices option, not sure that's what i'm looking for but i'm just curious about what that does exactly.

The easiest way to do it is to right click the audio event, scroll down to "Advanced", and select "Detect Silence". It will slice and dice all the peripheral noise away from all of the drum hits that you want to keep, provided you set the threshold and time domain settings correctly.

Cheers :)
