Okay, I've got a Roland TD-3 brain and I bought a full set of the stick-on triggers that go over the rim (I think they're made by Pulse Percussion). I had intended to mic the toms and just blend in the triggered sounds with the live tracks as desired. However, I can't get the triggers to respond correctly. The vibration from the drum head is too inconsistent and I've tried all variations of the sensetivity settings. When I put one of the triggers on a Remo practice pad and whacked it, the response was perfect...not so with the acoustic drum head. Now I'm saying the heck with mixing the tones and considering putting rubber pads on my toms (see the link below) and putting the triggers on them, recording triggered toms only (the reason? just can't get the tom sound I want with this kit or room). Do you think these rubber pads will respond the way I want (like the firmer practice pad did), or will I have to build my own edrum rack out of Remo pads and pvc? Thanks for any advise.

Hiya..

Unfortunately I dont know too much about the rim mounted triggers, but if its any help at all, I don't think you'l think too much of the rubber practice pads that you place over each drum as far as the 'feel' goes. I bought some once for my old kit and found that their is basically no bounce there at all.

I moved to a small flat in London, where banging loud drums could cause problems, so decided to save up for a full electronic kit because the pads just not any good for extended amounts of practice.n the end I got some Hart Dynamics pads along with a Alesis DM Pro brain. The feel of the mesh pads are very authentic and they don't make enough noise to disturb my neighbours.

I appreciate you might not want to spend the bucks on a full electronic set, but in my opinion the rubber practice pads will just piss you off.

I'm wondering how much you'd be able to get a full set of mesh pads for. Baring in mind you've already got a brain, it might be worth considering...Then you can connect them directly to your Roland.

You need to deaden the toms. If they are too ringy, you will have a lot of mis-triggers. If you tune them really low, you won't have that problem.
