If I was to buy a rack mount drum module (let's say a Novation D-station for example) what would I need to trigger the sounds? A midi-controller? A sequencer?

I currently own an Electribe er1 if that makes any difference.

thanks!

I suppose I should clarify. By "triggering" I don't mean playing it with drum sticks on pads. I mean just getting sounds out of it (with a keyboard? or something else?).

I've only ever used drum machines where everything I needed was built into the machine so I'm confused on this issue.

Cleveland? Woohoo, me too!

You can use a keyboard controller or a sequencer. A keyboard would be better, so you can play a Low C and a kick sounds, Low D = snare, etc.

You can do it with a sequencer in piano roll view, but it's a pain in the butt.

David, thanks for the reply. Where in Cleveland do you live? I'm in Collinwood.

If you're familiar with the Electribe er1, could I use that to trigger the sounds? and then use it to make loops?

I live in Aurora, do most of my gigs in Downtown at the Gund or at playhouse square.

I am not familiar with the Korg. I would assume that you can use it, I will check it out on the net.

Good to have a local boy on the board:cool:

I'm new to midi but I've looked at the manual and I'm pretty sure you can trigger the drum module via the midi out. Just assign the different pads on the Korg to a respective sound in the module? I think.

After that though I'd like to use the Korg to make patterns utilizing the drum module as a sound source. Not sure if that's possible.

I'm trying to, in other words, avoid purchasing another piece of equipment (in this case the keyboard controller) if I can just do everything on the Korg.

(I live near the Beachland Ballroom if you're familiar with it)

Yup, you can do it. Korg midi out to Drum modules midi in, it should be fairly simple to figure out.

I live a mile from Six flags. Glad the summer is over, lot's of traffic down here. I also live accross the street from Jim Thome. I think his family is still here.

(six flags? wasn't that Geauga Lake at one time?)

I thinks it's a relatively easy thing to figure out, it'll make my decision to purchase one of these things easier anyway.
