tricking pro tools....

I guess the lesson is: Don't tie yourself to proprietary crap

that's not the lesson here...the lesson is if you sell your DAW, don't expect other people to help you crack software because you got rid of it and you're wanting to mix a project again.

If he bought Cubase, sold it, and then wanted to open a Cubase project again...we're supposed to blame Steinberg for asking for a serial number or iLok key? Come on now.
This has nothing to do with "proprietary crap." I hate that these threads turn into "your answer is never to use Pro Tools" because other people dislike it.

why did i get a negative rep?

For helping of course!

But anyways..that's something i've never understood: all these progs & plug-ins that have been hacked, yet noone can hack PT to work without an interface?

And another thing: the track count on PT LE, it must simply be a few lines of coding which limit it to 32 tracks of active voicing; the DV Toolkit which "expands" the track count to 48 (i think) doesn't really install anything new does it? Just unlocks that feature...

damnit :(

not that i endorse cracking/hacking progs in any way, shape, form or manner!

The thing to do is pick up an original Mbox on eBay for under $200, open the sessions, consolidate the audio tracks on your projects, and then open the tracks in whatever software you are using now. Then sell the Mbox on eBay. It will most likely cost you nothing once you've resold the Mbox.

Damn i need that tool kit but €500 not likely any time soon
Why do i always run outta tracks?..... oh yeah musicians like me like to experiment. unfortunately!

I reckon its pretty lousy of digidesign to limit the tracks so much, and to make you get the DV toolkit just to be able to follow the play head.
apart from that it rocks. (no excuses though)

surely they wouldnt ENCRYPT the session format

oh wait :)

See, it's that sort of crap that guarantees I'd rather eat broken glass than use their products. They can be a "standard" as much as they want. Life's too short to put up with companies who think that their users should bend to the manufacturer's will.

When you create tools, you create them to server the consumer, not the other way around, and when companies treat their customers like slaves, it's time to send a few words in their direction that I'm not about to type in a public forum.

Ya Thats exactly why I would never purchase, or use anything from that company. They suck. I don't belive in useing cracked stuff either. I use all freeware stuff. Works just as good if you know what your doing.

wow. what the hell is wrong with you people?

pick an application. pick a piece of hardware. use it.

sell it and then it's no more.

digidesign sucks? oh yes. freeware blows them away i'm sure ....

if i sell my car but keep the keys, am i allowed to go the guys driveway and take the car for a spin whenever i feel like it?

and are the keys to a mustang supposed to work in a corvette?

no.

guess what.. you cant open cubase or sonar files in pro tools either, so it works both ways.

you can open cakewalk files on a mac at all, talk about costumers having to bend to the manufacturer..

I will have too agree with you on that actually. Protools LE is made for a paticular peice of hardware there are other versions of protools that will work on any kind of hardware. The only way this dude will be able too get those files opened too use. Is too buy a full version of protools. That isn't limited too paticular hardware. What those versions are I have no clue.

That's what people don't understand. Digidesign are a hardware manufacterer, and happen to bundle a piece of software with their hardware. they don't force you to use PT..

The way their user agreement is worded makes this much clear.

And yes, it does have its limitations. But i'll take those and rather have compatability with 99.9% of pro studios. The relevance of this in "homerecording" may perhaps be minimal, but for me it's of major importance.

You hit it there.

I can walk into any studio in town, pull out my little Pro Tools LE file, and in less than 10 minutes have the exact same settings and plugins running on the HD system.

I've never even had to use the Digi Translator.

Not to mention some people might actually like the software.

How short memories are!!!

Indeed, they offer drivers that will work for other apps NOW, but that certainly was NOT the case up until about 4 years ago.

Also, it is bullshit that the actual audio you record into PT cannot be used by any other app..............

ProTools files are not encrypted. All the original poster had to do was consolidate the tracks before he sold the hardware and he'd have all his songs intact and available to be opened by any DAW. It's not Digi's fault, as the same would hold true if he had been going from Cubase to ProTools.

Even now, he still has all his audio files sitting on his hard drive and can open them in another DAW any time he wants. But they will be in whatever short sections he recorded the takes in.

shackrock,
where do you live in ohio. i am in indiana, close to the state line. maybe i can help you consolidate your tracks so you can import them in to another program..

pm me if interested...

Which is PT's fault actually, there are a few ways, and one EFFORTLESS one to transfer cubendo to cakewalk

you can open cakewalk files on a mac at all, talk about costumers having to bend to the manufacturer..

ooops, yes you can, several ways, including, hillariously, digidesign's OMF, which even funnier, isnt stock with PT :)
