tricking pro tools....

I often stay up to day on technical forums on the net...etc. I know that for any software, there IS a way to trick it/crack it/hack it...etc.


I OWN protools (used to have an mbox). But a while ago, I moved up to the mackie onyx series with the firewire addon....

What I wanna know is if anyone has even HEARD of a way to trick protools into leting us use toher hardware on it. I don't even want to record with it, I'm happy with vegas. BUT, I want to mix other people's sessions on it - and bring up my old sessions. REALLY REALLY BAD...... somebody please tell me there's a way. haha. I do not have the money to get an mbox or something again.
 
you're asking for us to help you crack software?

I hate to break it to you but you don't really own it...if you don't own the hardware anymore, the software is not yours.
 
An Mbox mini is under $300, and you get ProTools LE 7.3 with that. It's one of the best deals out there in opinion. There's no excuse to hack PT when Digi has made it that affordable.
 
if you get digi translator it should import other sessions than pro tools sessions but check up about it first though

but you have to have the hardware to use the software its how protools stops piracy and is part of the user agreement

Digitranslator is for OMF/AAF/MXF Interchange.

not quite. i paid for a bought the software, and the hardware...so it's all mine. I sold the hardware in the meantime, still have LE discs - so no matter how you cut it the software is still mine bud. haha. I may not be able to use it, but it's still mine, and the projects made on it are still mine...etc. etc.

no it's not. Digidesign sells hardware, not software. They give away the software with the hardware. Since you paid for the hardware you can use it with the hardware...however, you sold yours. So in doing you agree not to use any part of the product again. It's a package deal.
So it'd be similar to just buying a copy of Photoshop, installing it on your computer, then selling that copy of photoshop but still keeping your version to use. However, it appears you didn't include the software with the hardware...basically you screwed someone over. They should have gotten software with their purchase.

From Digidesign's Hardware Transfer of Ownership Program:
"If you sell your master Pro Tools system the Pro Tools software license will be transferred along with the core hardware from your record, and upon transfer you will no longer be eligible for software updates or upgrades associated with the core hardware sold.
Core systems include Pro Tools software. That software should consist of an application program CD-ROM plus the Pro Tools authorization code or floppy kit."

sorry mate but bennychico11's right thats what i was refering to in the licence agreement but damn it, crack it and see if i give a damn digidesign have annoyed me enough already -bloody good software though but as a company there a pain to deal with.
 
we're not talking aobut the same thing.
I'm not trying to get anymore updates, upgrades, or anything. I want to have my projects that I made in it, and that is all.

but anyway, this isn't a debate about stealing software, i'd just love to be able to listen to these projects again on protools...i dont even have a mixdown of some of them.
 
got a friend with pt? get them to mix down for you and burn them to disc?
sorry but most pt users would like this but theres no hope of them legally implementing this.

Well..That's one of those things you should have thought about before selling off the hardware.

Why don't you just take the audio from the audio folder rebuild then mix the tracks in whatever DAW you have now?

Hassle yes... easier than trying to hack Protools? definately.

compatibility within the PT family...not within every other program on the market. No sorry, PT session files do not open in Cool Edit :rolleyes:
 
I'd rebuild. but it's completely mixed....tracks won't line up (tons of punchins, etc.)....it's something i dont really want to do again if you know what I mean. it'd just be nice to be able to bring that up with my mackie was all.

I am reminded of the time when we were first capturing the footage for The Carnie and Trailer Trash Show. We were pretty new to video codecs, and using computers for video at all!

This matrox card we had seemed to capture it great. We didnt realize THAT process used the codec on the card itself and wasnt available at the time in software.

As parts got better/cheaper/faster, we realized we had to tie ourselves to that damn card, no mater what, even if it meant horrible losses in performance, and limiting the PC's on the network that could even play the video!

I guess the lesson is: Don't tie yourself to proprietary crap
