Here's a song that MAC2 and I are very proud of.
It's a tribute to a fellow police officer killed in the line of duty.

There's nothing fancy about this song, just one main guitar, a few accents, and a vocal.
The recording itself could've been better, but we were working with limited equipment and VERY limited knowledge at the time.

The song is called "Coming Of The Storm".
Just listen....

And as always, feel free to comment.

Thanx.....
Buck

the intro is very good....i actually really like the spaceyness of the vocals.,...some others might say that the reverb is too much, but i like it...the track could use some minor NR...the words are beautiful, very well written...i am a bass player at heart, so i really wanted to hear a bassline come in and maybe a basic dumline..even if just a metronome....again, it is just my taste...i love the simplicity of it....i was hearing some hard p's in the singing...no biggie in my ears...are you using a pop filter? over all, i have to say that i am impressed with the composition...very good...i am going tolisten to your other songs to get a better picture/... keep it up

if you have time..come check out my cuts at

i'd appreciate your opinion...thank you for sharing your music.

Thanx samich... :)

This song was done on my 'old' recording set-up.... a Korg D8 and crappy cables, mics, etc.
Never-the-less, the message still seems to come accross pretty well. Thanx for listening, and I'll try to listen to your tunes tonight when I get home from work.
I was hoping to get more responses out of this one.
Oh, well...

Buck

i'm sorry that nobody has really responded to your song..i have had the same luck..it seems that the more posts you have, the more chance you'll have of getting people to listen to the cuts... unfortunate, but whatever...better to have one person listen to it wholeheartedly and offer some honest opinions, than have 50 people respond with comments based on one person's (with a lot of posts) comments....who don't even listen to it.

you're welcome for the feedback....that'd be great if you gave the songs a listen...i would really appreciate it

Hey buck,
I'd like to check out this tune, but it appears that download is not enabled, only hi-fi play. I have a dial-up, so that's not gonna work well for me.

ok help Waldo...it seems i cant stream songs...it maybe something on my end but i can only use the dwonload options which this song doesnt have...speed isnt an issue as im on cable....

He's gotta turn on download! I can't do it for him...

Anyways, it appears there is a 'bug' on his page in the java also. I can't see where at this moment, but it may be solved if he just 'refreshes' his artist entry after he changes the permission to allow download.

P.S. Allow Member Only download now functions, you must be logged in to download when this options is chosen however.

Sorry guys.... my bad!

I made the song available for download by anyone, so just click on the link in my first post and it should be available.

no i believe hes an officer of the law and you may wanna stand against the card and spread em'....is that a crack pipe in your pocket or is it just an incrediby small penis?.....:D

Buck,

as always, very excellently recorded.....good song and arrangement......you did a good job of making such a sparse mix sound big.......

i think i woulda used a little less verb on the vocal to make it seem a little more up front....it just seems a little washed out....i guess you needed it that way to fill up the mix?.....if i could record vocals half that good id be happy so im not saying they sound bad....
:D

again, great job and a great tribute...

Pretty cool Buck. The vocals seem drowning in reverb to me as well, with a tinny slapback quality.

The song itself is nice. Great lyrics, good writing and playing.

Would of been cool to bring drums/bass in at 1:09, 'The coming of the storm' dop dop dop dop / dop dop dop dop (quarters)/ crash (whole) / de de de /da da da (eights) / crash (whole).

Great job.

I'd like to hear less reverb on the vocal, but just my preference. Otherwise, it's a cool feel goin on with the guitar and vocal by themselves... and I think it makes a good statement that fits the lyrics. I wouldn't add any other instruments to it. I did hear a little distortion (what sounded like mic pops) on my monitors during the louder vocal parts like ".. anticipate the coming of the storm." But might just be cause I got it cranked up too loud. :D Excellent job of capturing emotion in the recording.

Guys... thanx :)

I know there's a ton of 'verb on this song, but we were trying to go for a deep "feel" on this song.
This was a tough song to write. I cried when I put it on paper.
When MAC2 and I performed this song in front of the Mayor of Chicago and all the police commanders in the city, there wasn't a dry eye anywhere.
(It was at a city park dedication to officers killed in the line of duty)

MAC2 did all the guitar work, and I did the vocals.
I recorded the vocals alone, at about 2am, with just 4 or 5 candles burning to provide the only light in the studio.
It was recorded on my old equipment... a Korg D8 and crappy cables and mics. That's where the noise came from.
The guitar is an original '72 Telecaster Thinline lined straight in and played clean.

Gidge:
I always appreciate compliments on my arrangements and vocals... thanx!

Emeric:
I suggested the same thing (drums and bass) at the same point in time, but MAC2 wanted to "keep it simple".
Great minds think alike, I guess. ;)

Jon X:
The emotion came from attending 12 years of police funerals, and the tragic loss of some very brave young men.
When those bagpipes start playing, I fall apart.

Buck

Buck,

Sounds Good. I am a copper too here in CA. I too have had some brothers fall in my 6 year career. I know that all of them appreciate your talent and effort as well. Thanks. Stay safe.

Fangar

Thanx Fangar,

I'm sure this song has a special meaning to you, too.
Please share it with some fellow officers.

We recently appeared on a TV show here in Chicago called "Crimewatch".
The basis of the interview was this song, and that we're donating all of the proceeds of our CD to the Gold Star Families , which are the families of police officers killed in the line of duty.
Here's a brief overview of our appearance...

It's all for charity.

Thanx again for listening, and be safe! :)

Very soulf-ful song there $1.62!!! A little more drum and bass presence, but it contained the emotion and ambience of losing life! Hearkens me back to 9/11! *sniff*!!
I TRULY enjoyed this jammie!!

Excellent!

I also see nothing wrong with the heavy use of 'verbs as it provides that sense of a wide chasm of loss!

Wow! Thanx, MisterQcue!
I'm glad you caught the 'feel' that we were trying to achieve.
This song was recorded in the summer of '99, when we were pretty much clueless as to how to achieve a great recording.
It was mixed on a cheapo bookshelf stereo system.
This might be one to 're-record' after hearing some of these comments! Possibly including bass and drums. :)

DavidK:
Speaking of 're-recording', some violin would sound awesome on this song.... doncha think? ;)
