Bring Back Transfat!
Is there a slick transport (play, stop, record, etc) thingie that works well with Ntrack?

I can hack mousing, but it would be cool to have some real buttons to push while sitting behind my drums. It would be handy at the desk too!

Hah, I actually wrote a program to control n-Track via a standard joystick/gamepad type controller. It was kind of neat, but I never finished it! Once I had it working for playing and stopping, the thrill just kind of wore off (because I didn't actually need it at the time).

Anyhow, have you thought about a USB keyboard and a long cable? How about regular keyboard extentions?

Otherwise, there are MIDI controllers out there that are intended to interface with recording applications...but nothing cheap & simple. You know, n-Track will work with a couple of those controllers...I wonder if you can set it up to use any old MIDI controller to control n-Track? Hmm...something to look into I guess.

The most recent vesion of n-track works just dandy with the Tascam US-428 control surface. Pricey if you just want a control surface, but it also adds 4 24bit inputs and a few other things, too.

N-track has support for midi control surfaces, though, and you can set just about any of them up for it.

Take care,
Chris

Yep, I've used the lower (unused by me) keys of my MIDI keyboard for transport controls.

Works slick and if you've already got a keyboard set up, cost you nothing.

That's awesome, if you can use any MIDI controller, then you should be set! (or at least you have a TON of options)

Ok, the 224 or 428 looks like a viable option, but lemme throw a curve..........

I'm using a C-Port card and breakout box. Can these Tascam units be used simply as transport and faders (excluding it's converters) to manipulaue Ntrack, or should I be looking for something that is strictly a controller?

In essence, I don't want to over-ride my c-port for the sake of having transport buttons.

Dude,

I'm using my VXPocket 2 in conjunction with my US-224. I use the 224 for playback and fader control, and the vxpocket for actual recording.

Sometimes, I even use the VXpocket to both monitor AND record, and use the US 224 as strictly a controller.

So, there ya go!

Tim O'Brian,

How did you set up you keyboard to act as a controler? I would really like to do that...

Slack - Any hope of you finishing your little program? Could be really cool... All you really need is Play, Stop & Record.

Hmmm, I see that Flavio has actually made it easier... cool!

Go to View>Settings>MIDI faders/control setup

MIDI events can then be associated with control functions.

(This is using 3.05 and I have the latest build 1289 on my PC)

have fun!
