I have a 12 Pearl Firecracker and im trying to get a traditional snare sound out of it. Im just not to sure how i need to tune to get it. Right now i have the top tuned hi and the bottom hi. There both pretty tight. I want a kinda damp "Traditional" Sound. if you know what i mean. Any suggestions?

UH, no I don't know what you mean. "traditional" for what kind of music? A "traditional" sounding jazz snare is different from a rock, or country or grass.
Also, although they have a sound that fits a particular niche, I've never considered a 12" snare drum traditional. Give me a better idea of the sound you're looking for (examples would be nice) and I'll try to help. choice of heads is a big factor.

If you're going for that Buddy Rich or Steve Gadd sound that 12" Might be just a little to small. Maybe some 14x5 maple or something like that with a remo emperor coated on the batter will get you their.

Is there such a thing? If you want a dampened sound, tuning it tight should help you out. Also try Moon Gels if you want ULTRA dampening.

correction.... tuning it TOO tight results in dampening... tuning it tight usually opens the snare to a nice full crack.
