Master of the Obvious
I have a pair of NT5 that I just don't use that much and have been thinking of selling to get a pair of c42. I only use my NT5 on acoustic guitar and cello. For OH I use Oktava 012. I'd like to get some higher end in my Mic closet and keep reading how great a mic the C42 is for both OH and acoustics.

Here's where I'm @ - NTK, NT5 (2), Oktava 012 (2), 57(2), RS-PZM, RS-Tom Mic (2), SPB1 (2), c1000. Layla24, Sytek Pre, Soundcraft F1 pre, RNC (2), dbx163x

Here's what I've been thinking and some feed back would be great... I do mostly Acoustic, Acoustic rock, Hard Rock. I'd like to get either a MD-421, e609 or both. More so the 421. A Kick Mic- Audix D6 or AKG d112. I've been using my c1000 (lame mic) as my Kick Mic w/ the Mic Modeler on d112. It's actually not so bad but I'd like to get a dedicated Kick so there's less processing and sell the c1000.

To step up my set up... I've been thinking getting a Soundelux U195 and the Josephson C42. Or on the other hand... a pair of akg 414. To bring even more light to the picture... I'm going to get a Shinybox 46. I came across a good deal on a M-Audio Octane that will add 8 more ch. to my setup (16 total). It has M/S stereo so getting the SB 46 will give me the figure 8 pattern and a Ribbon.

I could stay in budget land (get 2 shinybox 46 Ribbons to try on... everything :D and OH) get the Kick and save for a U195. Or Step up to the plate and sell my NT5 and get the c42 now & a kick and 1 shinybox 46.

I almost always buy used and wait for good deals (I have more patients than Nurse Ratchet), alot of times that's what directs my path. Like the Octane ( I probably would have never thought of that one. & 2 wks ago I almost got 2 yes 2 414 for $500) so I'm really in no hurry except for the Ribbon Mic which to me for $150 is a no brainer.

I know I'm all over the Map so any suggestions would be Great.
Thanks,
B.

Another option would be a stereo pair of Peluso CEMC6 mics. I have tried them and they sound fabulous. I had to send mine back recently, due to a problem they had with lead-free parts they were using, or something of that nature, which caused noise in the mics, but they have since fixed the problem. Aside from that issue, the mics sound incredibly nice for the price. Some have said that the C42s are a bit bright, yet have a nicely colored sound, definitely a quality mic. If you are interested in the CEMC6s, contact Todd at Soundpure.com, he'll set you up! They are a great bunch of guys there.

Thanks for the recommendation. Those just went in one eye and out the other while reading about the c42. Since I don't have a world class room I thought the c42 color might help. I just did some reading on the CEMC6... looks like a very good option, I like that they have a pad and roll off as the C42 don't... and the ability to buy omni capsules too. Hmmm?

Thanks again,
B.
