I was asked by a person in the music bussines if i track my beats with an adat or reels ect.So how does this work?I know the mpc 2000 has 8 outputs i can get but what do that do?is that how i do it.I thought i just do all with the keyboard Sampler ect.is this something that is done thru an audio board, patch bays ect.Or the muitly outputs in the keyboard ect.And can i do this with a JV-1010?Is this what the pros do?thanks

I think what that person was referring to was recording your groove tracks onto analog tape, the reel to reel kind.Any of your boxes that produce sound could be recorded onto it,but you would first need to plug the outputs together into a mixer because most of the reel to reel 2 track machines only have 2 inputs.Something like the Mackie 1202 or 1402 would do the job for the mixing, good luck on finding the analog tape machine!

but what about adat. And when people produce music for an album do they take their stuff or record them like that?

I believe that the guy you talked to wanted to know the method of how you record your sounds. Currently in the hip-hop business most of the beats are laid on a hard disk recorder (i.e akai dps16) or on an adat, and the rapper just spitts his lyrics over the beat, the song is then edited again. I think he was wanting to know how you reach your end product, you record it to a four tracker with anolog tape, an adat or hard disk recorder.

p.s. when you go to have your album mastered and albums pressed for it, you ussually go with a mastered cd. you can do that yourself with mastering software, so if you plan on putting out an idependent release, get your edit album burned to a cd then take it to them.

Just to add tothe mastering post, if you need your track mastered, e-mail me at longwaverecords@btinternet.com and duplicate it to guitargod@btinternet.com just incase im not at the studio. i sort people on the list out with a good price for mastering and other recording services.
let me know if you need it done.
