Track EQing

My band and I are using an old version of cakewalk until we get purchase a better program, and have run into a problem. We record the drums all on one track (because we dont have a good sound card yet and are just getting used to recording) and EQ that how we want it after its recorded. After that, we add other tracks and it seems when we EQ the other tracks after recording them, the EQing effects every track instead of just the one we intended to EQ.

We're stumped so any help would rock.

Make sure the only track selected is the track you want to add the EQ or any other effect to. You could accidentally be selecting more than one track. Besides that, you might want to get everything recorded FIRST, then start playing around with the tracks. It will be easier for you to get a balanced mix that way. The way you are doong it now could easily lead to the drums not leaving any room for guiatrs and bass. good luck.... :D
 
I'd agree with the above post - get everything tracked first. Get a balance of the tracks without adding EQ, effects, etc. Then start EQ'ing or whatever you might need to do. Keep in mind that EQ'ing can add volume to tracks too, thus a good idea to mix the basic tracks first.

Not sure what Cakewalk you're using, but it sounds like you are applying EQ to the entire master bus in turn affecting all tracks in that bus.
