Hello all,
I just bought an Alesis MD5 used. I'm a guitarist but I like to dabble and I like to be accomodate drummers when they come jam in my home studio. I use GarageBand to record for now as it is simple and I haven't had a chance to learn the ropes with Logic yet.
I want to trigger external drum sounds using the DM5. My understanding is that i run a midi out from the DM5 into the midi in of my M-Audio firewire 410, Create a midi track in GarageBand and I should be good to record.
The question is, how do I map my pads to individual sounds in GarageBand? Do I need some other software (if so, reccomendations would be greatly appreciated) or does GarageBand have some built in?
Ultimately I would like to create a few different kits ie: Jazz, Metal, Rock..etc and store them on my Mac so that when it's time to record, I am bypassing the sounds in the MD5 and using kits that I have put together on my Mac.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.... I think i'm close but that extra bit i'm missing has me at a standstill. (btw, if you aren't familiar with GarageBand, explain the process/concept for your DAW of choice and i'm sure i'll get the jist of it and repurpose for GB)
PS: very willing to read up so feel free to simply point me to threads or websites if you prefer
Thanks in advance!
