Maybe two sets of ears are better than one. Last Monday night, I went up to Jeff's and we took this tune all the way back to the basic tracks and remixed the thing. We found what I suspected. There was alot of cross channeling on the the original cassette so we did the best that we could with a remix going back to the CD Burner. We added just a tad of verb and some gentle compression on the way there. Nothing more.

I will be working on this one using my recording program. All suggestions welcome.

Ding Dang!! I admire your dedication to this mix. I hear improvment and have followed it from the first post.

It is sounding much better. The only thing I could offer, and I'm probably exceeding my knowlege and neophite ear, is to push the rhythm git up a tad and back off the verb on the git(I think it was recorded out of the amp with that tone) but, if you've added any post recording verb on it, back it off. I'd maybe add a sprinkle of verb or a light blend of verb and chorus to the vox track to get it to blend with the rest of the mix.

The other thing is that I'd push your solo (around 2:50, that is you Axe, right?) up in the mix. It is a nice solo and shouldn't fully be up in the mix but, it shouldn't be shy either.

Please take these suggestions with a grain..........I think it sounds much better than the original mix and you deserve a mixing pat on the back for effort alone.

Hope I helped more than hindered. At any rate, it gave me an excuse to listen to the tune again:D

Peace,

Theron.

It was good to finally get my paws on those basic tracks. Jeff lives about 45 mins away and with work, his and my schedule, etc. It was hard to catch up with him.

Yeah, the verb is from his Deluxe Reverb and my V-AMP2. Can't do much to get rid of that. Oh, BTW, Jeff was playing his Gibson Barney Kessel on that tune, not the American Strat as I think I stated earlier.

Yeah, my solo starts fading in at about 2:15 and the last note fades about 3:53. I start it with the standard Boogie fare and then do it my old 70's way. It's pumped up a bit from the original and I don't know if it would be better any louder but it's something to think about when we go from the Demo mode to making the final CD.

The idea bout the Rythymn coming up is good too and we need to separate the Guits more but I have Sharon's drum channel bleeding on my channel and Jeff has the Bass bleeding on his. This was because the Pan controls were not set right for 4 Track recording on 424 MKIII. We have learned alot from this experience and the next time that we record, it will be recorded on a DAW that I'm building and it's going to have either a Delta 44 or Delta 1010 in it.

Thanks for listening again and the suggestions, Bro! Glad ya enjoy this tune that much. You've been involved almost as much as we have and I appriciate that, Bro!

Sounds much better!

You could use some reverb on the vocals, and there a little to loud I think.

Nice guitarin!
You voice sounds cool too!

I likey!:D

Best to you,
Pete

This is my first time hearing this. I like the "blues/Jesus" combo. Can't say I've heard that very often.
OK, I don't know how this was recorded, but is panning an option? I think I'd like to hear things spread out a little more. I'd also like the bass to be more defined...mostly because the higher frequencies of the guitar are so dominant, but I realize this is almost always a matter of taste. There are some cymbals that seem a bit overbearing too, but I'm guessing the drums were recorded on one or two mics (unfortunately, I apparently missed the original thread).
It kind of makes me think of George Thorogood if he quit drinking and found God! Fun song man. Keep it up!

Cool! Reminds me of them ZZ Top guys (although with a slightly holier message ;)) Had a bit of trepidation listening to your stuff before -- thought it might be preachy :D Actually, it's very enjoyable :)

Sorry to pick nits -- but the cymbals seem harsh (8k) -- maybe you could EQ 8k down about 8db? Mids seem missing from 2k-4k. Mix also seems heavy between 500Hz-1k. That's all for now :D:D

Drums are extremely well played. Guitar sounds good. Is that your voice? (Sorry -- haven't read the other replies!)

I agree with most of the previous suggestions, but let me reinforce the comments about the cymbals being too loud.. I know your limited on what you can do, but if you do nothing else, you must try to get some of those cymbals down.. It's not every time, but when there loud, there too loud. Also the bass drum is waaaayyy tooo low.. I don't know if you can change it now, but those two things would help a LOT imhop.. Maybe watch the compression too, because it sounds like you compressed the whole mix a bit too much, and that raises noise too. Try to nail a better mix, and you'll need less compression imhop..

sounds better than it did though, and that's why we here!

keep it goin'!

:D :D :D that about says it! .......cool stuff Axe. This is the first of yours that i have had the pleasure of hearing. Very cool. I agree w/ the cymbal comments...... a little harsh and loud. The guits are cool and i like the vocs. I didnt mind the bass as much...... The recording kinda has a live beer bar kinda feel to it, and I think the bass sound is partially responsible for that.... .....makes me wanna dump my ashtray full of peanut shells on the floor:D .......Cool stuff bro. Looking forward to more. G

Glad you enjoyed the tune, Bro.

Yeah, I think that this is about the third time through here with this tune. The Drums were a Yamaha DTXpress Electronic set directly into the the mixer on the Tascam 424 MkIII. The majority said that the Drums and Bass were too dominant before. Also, the mix was very muddy due to over compression. Jeff had just gotten the thing and went nutz with it. LOL

Thanks for the listen and input, SluCe.

Thanks for the listen and I'm glad that enjoyed it, Bro! And thank you for the help in isolateing those frequencies for me. Man that will sure save me some playing around with the 10 band graphic in my recording program when I work this thing over.

I'm sure that Sharon will enjoy your comments on her drumming. Thanks from me n Jeff for the comment on the Geetars.

Jeffro is the dude singing this one. I haven't made my debut singing with the band yet. Probably on the next CD.

Sam;

Thanks so much for the comments, Bro! I'm going to work this thing over on the puter and use the 10 band EQ in my program on the freqs that Chad posted.

As mentioned above, Sharon used a Yamaha DTXpress electrionic drum kit on these recordings. I may try to use some Parametric EQ to bring that Kick Drum out just a bit if I can isolate the freqs.

I don't intend on using anymore compression on this tune at all.

Thanks again, Sam!

actually CR, if you do have parametric EQ available, use that. The frequencies I suggested were ball-park -- so you'd still have to monitor :)

Hey Guernica! Thanks for the listen and the comments! Glad you liked the tune.

The Tune sounds live because we record all the basic tracks Live. We are that kinda band. If ya want to hear Real LIVE, Checkout "Thief In The Night." ;)

Thanks Again!
