Toss It All Behind

With kind help from the extremely talented Jeff Maher on bass and rhythm guitar, this is the final mix of this tune ...

I never did get a real trumpet player ...

Thanks all!

Sounds pretty good. Have you posted this before? It seems familiar.

My only nit is some slight mush/lack of clarity in the low mids of the vocal track. Maybe it's reverb? I don't know. But it doesn't have the clean clarity of your usual vocal tracks. Snare is a little thin, but that's a personal taste thing. It's certainly fine as-is.

I had posted it up as a work in progress as I was building the tracks, G, but I'm setting to getting to working the final mixes on about half of the stuff that is done tracking for this particular project. This is where I set to tighten and polish it all. Thanks for the note ... I'll go back and listen with that in mind.

I find the vocals could use some compression between the low and loud parts (verse). The harmony part seems to have that okay. Nice variety of beautiful instrumentation going on throughout this piece. I'm wondering why this is not called "Left Her Behind"??? Great tune!

G- As per usual, your ears are spot on. There is too much "warmth" to the vocal and it's creating an ever so slightly fuzzy.

I'll also tighten up on the compression ever so slightly too, i ... as similar thought occurred to me ... and you confirmed it.

Thanks both!

Like it the first time I heard it and it sounds better-arranged than the first time. Love the harmonies in the end. Nice, Kev!

I don't remember if I'd posted this with the harmonies added, Joe. Glad you liked the addition!

Love the panning. All the parts are jiving...and the spread and ambience are ear candy. No holes in the tableau ...big-picture sound.

Much better than I remember. I wish I'd have hit a few more of the BD hits. That was a tough foot to follow!

Just a plain good job!

Sounds good, and I'm pretty sure it's just my earbuds, since nobody has mentioned it, but the kick is buggin' me. It's very round, and has very little, if any, attack. I don't wanna hear a metal click on it or anything, but seemed like it was really lacking attack. low-mid vocal weirdness confirmed, as well.

Ummm... Other than that, dude, sounded really well done. Good job.

I like it all except for the almost JC Mellencamp/Jack'n'Dianne snare snaps.
Good stuff.

Always love your stuff K-dub. But with you I always feel you have a fantastic voice in search of the right backing track. The right mood.

I recon you usually get the bass and drums right, but the guitar is always a bit reggae and wrong. I think you need something quirky and smooth to rest your voice on...

cool song. i don't care for the snare too much, but it may be a preference. mix sounds really good! as others have said, maybe compress the vocals a bit, or just automate them down during the choruses. good job!

Love the acoustic guitar sound. Good vocal sound too. Good bass too.

Little pitch issue at :49? Not sure, maybe that's how you meant to sing it.

Personal taste thing... didn't like the verb on the snare. Too wet for me. Kick was a little too woofy for me.
