alright, well i took the VERY FEW PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY COMMENTED's suggestions here and re-mixed.

a reminder of my equipment:
DELTA44 (new!)
mxl603s (2) for overheads (new!)
sm57 on snare
sm57 on guitars (all recorded seperate)
direct bass through mixer
sm58 for vox
at pro25 for kick drum
that should be it i think.

i also took the liberty of putting it up at nowhereradio instead of my usual angelfire stuff...because maybe thats why nobody responds to my threads? ha.

well anyway - more mix critiques please. dont care about anything else but the recording/mixing side of things. thanks though!

I didn't hear the first mix (self absorbed prick that I am) :D ... but this sounds good to me. Very raw, which fits the song. I'd screw it up by taking what you have, and adding one global reverb to it, but I don't think that's what you're going for.

That note...the one where the singer sings "RUIN" for the very first time, is waaay off.

Nice job overall. Wish I could be more help, and I hope you get more input on this one.

:D

One Star Bandit

I didn't do that. Here's some more stars...NOT THAT IT MATTERS, but I didn't want you to think that I would say mostly positive things and then one star it. I leave the one-starring to those who don't want to take the time to comment.

sheesh...

Man, I don't post this much in my OWN threads...

[bump]...

good luck getting more input.

I don't think I responded to the first either, which is probably better for you cause I don't know what I'm talking about...ever.

Anyway. This sounds pretty good. Sounds live but real dry. I think the drums could use a little something in the reverb area. I don't know how to use reverb effectively so do what you will with that comment.

I think the singer could use a little more energy. Maybe that's the style though?

The guitars could use something as well. But I don't know what. I picked up a tip along the way about doubling the guitars but that might be hard to do in a live setting.

For a live setting this sounds pretty good.

The guitars and bass are there, the drums are a little muffled but they can at least be heard.

Cool tune!

FYI, I was playing this and someone entered the room and asked if I was listening to Greenday!

:D :D :D

It's like listening to myself post!!! Is that funny to anybody else but me???

Okay, it is SSSSooooo easy to offend people when you don't know them, so I want to make it ABSOLUTELY CLEAR that I'm not making fun of erichenryus...Far from it. It's just a perfect post.

:D
-nobody, saying nothing

I'm glad it sounds good for live...but it isn't! hahaha.

it was all recorded seperately! lol.... at least i'm getting closer..

so now with that in mind - what else can be done?! haha.

One thing I DO HAVE is OZONE.... but i'm a little not sure on how to use it still... how can i warm this mix up? get it less "RAW"?

I'd love to hear some pros oppinions on this...

I'm a professional :(

OOOOooohhh, you meant a MUSIC professional.

Well excccuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me!

:D

I'm about to listen to it but have to warn you there are no pros around here only "cons" ... :D

I like the recording and mix for the most part and since that's what you care about then it's a good thing... the performance is another issue and I won't go there ... :D I agree with trying some verb on drums ... guitars sound good ... vocals ... well ... recording is fine. but I can see why you wouldn't want them more upfront. :D
cheers

listening right now....

like thelittle guitar part in the beg...grooves...harmonies a little tiny bit off .........i like this song tho im listening on comp speakers ...and the drums seem to be a little hot....but my speakers suck too so.....ok the drag groove part after "hear me talk "..is to slow...you loose momentum ..i like the idea it just seems tooo slow......all in all this is a cool song!!..and please dont make too much of my comments ..im really new to this ...:D

nice
jamallica...;)

Nice guitar playing!
I like the drum sound you have, good groove.

The slow part was definitly a Black Sabbath moment, cool!

Mabey it needs a liitle lead solo, sounds good though,I like it!:D

no offense chris. i'm often lmao when i read your posts. we're from the same tribe i guess ;). i have learned an awful lot since i found this place, but mostly i've realized that i really don't know what i'm doing :D i think that's a good thing!

I liked the tune. I thought it was arranged well.

I think the vocal level fluctuates. Some parts are loud enough and other parts I can't quite make out the lyric.

I think the snare is just a tad overpowering too on the faster parts.

Overall I think it's a good effort.

I like it all fairly well except for the solo gtr lines and the vocals sound VERY young to me....not that that means anything....just seems to lack some "emotion" and maturity. But...the rhy gtrs do kick in the headphones. People say my stuff sounds from the 80's....I guess punk/thrash is still going strong too....

This is a fun little song, it's sticking to me, did I hear Green Day mentioned? Is it all you shackrock? I don't know quite how to say what I'm thinking but it seems a little hot and really open on the bottom end at the same time. Vocals are a little out in a few places. Overall, I like it. Good job :D

this is definately not my band...haha
i got a 9th grader friend who wanted to lay some tracks down, just did it for them...plus its a great test of my new equipment.

thanks for the comments...now how about a final EQ for mastering of some sort? get this thing a little warmer...

I thought this sounded like some youngsters, but I wasn't sure. :p Great job recording then, sorry I can't help with the final EQ :o :D

AMEN TO THAT! The people here are, with a couple of jackass exceptions, tremendously generous and helpful, and the sense of community is just...oh wait, somebody just made another post to the new WAR THREAD...gotta' run!
