Hey guys,
Got a good deal on a pair of new NT5's. $310 plus tax. I'm just wondering if I jumped too soon….
I own a Rode NTK and an AT4033 and am very happy with both. However, I’ve recently begun preparing to record drums and needed a decent pair of Overheads that would also suit well in other areas of my growing home studio. After searching the forums I think there has been good things said about the NT5's....but I'm kind of looking for some reassurance...... ?? Have I made a good choice? After all, there are lots of mics in this price range. The C4’s for example are around the same price…..
Thanks =)

Nothing like diving into the pool and then realizing it's been drained, eh? :D

The pool ain't empty, man! You'll like the mics and will get plenty of good use out of them. Down the road you'll see a need for something else and buy that, too. But you'll always have the NT5s for those situations in which they're perfet.

I like the NT5's a lot. I especially like them on acoustic instruments. They sound amazing for some cello and classical guitar I recorded. I have yet to use them for drum over heads, but I've used them as stereo overheads for a choir and a jazz band and they sounded great both times. I think you'll be really happy with them. I only paid $275 + tax for them though....and that was a year ago.

ha ha yeah, I've been taking the plunge a lot lately... I've got a management position at target, and I've resisted everything to start building my own studio-- not only stupid shit like eating out or movies, but also having a car, a cell phone, new clothes, shoes, etc... the good side is I've got about $1500 in the bank and just picked up a d112, some C4s, a 414, and some other stuff, so it's going well... soon, a neumann.... and then, an avalon...etc....

The NT5's sound nice on "Cut with Water" and "Welcome To Tomorrow".

LOL. I know how it is....
Thanks for the support guys. The mics have pretty much proved themselves to me thus far. I tracked drums today for nearly 5 hours and they were everything I hoped for. If I get a chance and the permission, I'll post them up somewhere for all to hear. I really like how they weren't too tinny or bright. They worked well in getting a smooth overhead feel..which was perfect for the blues (which we happened to be tracking.) Next I'll try them on acoustic guitar. =)
Thnx again,
-Vic

I didn't pick up the NT5's becasue they were more expensive than the C4's (which is what I got). I hear that the NT5's are nice but on the dark side (whic is cool) but the C4's have a selection of omni and cardoid capsuls, so I went with them.
