well Kris the quality is still there (only 4 bits diff) thats what i would do, Outboard HD's have been around for awhile but i think there just starting to get it right. better things in the future im sure.

Hey i saw wilkee put in 7200 rpm drives..any advantages over the 5400 rpm type ones ( or 5200 rpm i forget!) greater stability??

No diff at all it was just that I had the 2 IBM,s kicking around ( just taken them out of my DAW which is now in the office as a network server "Strike one to the HD24") I think as long as they are decent 5200 rpms they should do fine.

Alesis HD 24 Problems

Purchased an HD24 a month ago. Been trying to dump song tracks from an Adat XT tape onto the HD24 (eight tracks at a time). It sync's up ok with the XT as master and HD24 as slave. When hooked to the optical or analog outputs and switching light pipes or chords in the back to 9-16 it will only record up to 12 tracks (stops at 12) and will not record music on 13-16 nor will it record on the remaining 17-24. The sample rate is 48khz. Is there a procedure when arming all 24 tracks that we've missed instead of the record enable buttons on the front panel? Or have I read the book too many times and missed the obvious solution?
Thanks

When arming tracks, are you using 24/96 conversion? The HD24 will only record on 12 tracks at that bit rate regardless if you sample down from 48 to 44.1, but will sync with slave XT's on ALL
24 tracks at 20bit. Guess you can't have it all,but it still RUUUUULES!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the Help

Thanks for the help. We pulled it out of it's stupor and it works perfectly. What a machine! Really. For those of you having this same problem. If you own an Adat XT then you most likely know about reinitializing. It works the same way on the HD24. Push the play and record button while turning it back on and WALA. It's back to normal again. Got all twenty-four tracks now. We were recording in 48khz mode but it just had a glitch for some reason. Oh...and by the way, reinitializing doesn't erase your songs.
Thanks All
