Took a chance on a piece of Behringer gear, check it out...

I ordered that new HA4700 headphone amp they have (the successor tp the Ha4600) supposed to be better, and I'm going to give it a run and see how it does.
I will report back a very honest opinion. For $99, shit, if it works well enough and its rackmount and has lots of flashy things and can get 6 or 7 phones running, what the hell. I can always send it back.
Will keep you posted.
 
fwiw, it seems that the headphone amps are one of the only "acceptable" pieces of behringer gear around here. i suppose mainly b/c it's not in your "to tape" signal path. ;-P

seriously, let us know how it goes. i'm in the market for a canamp that'll take 4 separate monitor mix inputs, and it looks like this one will.

also been waiting for the "blowout" on the 4600......

I still own a HA4400, for many years, and I'm still satisfied! No problems at all. The new ones have more option but...hey... I'satisfied. :)

If the new one are working as well as mine do, then you will be 100% satisfied, I'm pretty sure!
 
I had an HA4400 for a while and I thought it was cheap as hell as far as the hardware build quality. It was so light it felt like it would float out of my hands. The amps didn't put out a lot of punch either. I got rid of it shortly after I bought it. The Behringer headphone amps are not the only game in town at that price point.

That said, it *is* inexpensive and it does what it says it will do, so for some it will be a good choice no doubt. It's just unfortunate that so many people are getting accustomed to such flimsy gear.
 
dude, dunno witch headphones your were using or whatever, but I can easily feed drummers ears with that thing. I actually watch where is the volume control on the 4nd unit, witch is one my drummer had last time we played here, and it's set à 2.5, and the main section is at 3, He drums with AKG ATH-M40fs headphones.

No he dont have a wesbury plastic kit, but a huge 4 pieces DW.

I have to describe it cuz it's too cool : 26x18 kick,18x15 floor, 14x10 rack tom. DAMN its sooo cool :)

Yes, of course I know they are better phone amps, but, this one works very well with me :)
 
Those DW's are great! I'm doing a show now with a guy that has a custom DW set. HUGE sound! I'll double check tonight just make sure it is a DW.

I wasn't happy with my HA4400, but I do have a thing about "tactile feedback". I like gear that sounds great, looks great AND feels great. Cheap pots just don't do it for me anymore. I've gotten spoiled by quality, and while I used to spend a lot of money on the prosumer stuff, I just can't bear to do that anymore.

Fortunately, my mixers have multiple headphone outs, so I was able to dump the outboard headphone amp.
 
I didn't answer your question. I was using Sony 7506 headphones. It was a combination of the headphone amp seeming wimpy, i.e. having to boost up into hiss to get some level, plus the general cheap feeling construction of the unit. Maybe my gain structure was wacked, I don't know. Anyway, it's a lot easier and simpler to have the headphone amps coming right out of the mixer.
 
well, I'll stick to mine, even I I'm not a huge Behr. fan, cuz it'doing a good job with me for many years so...


DW kits are too nice :) My studio own a full maple Cadeson kit. not bad but... nothing to compare with DWs :)
 
Well, the newer one is supposed to have more power, better amps and can handle down to 8 ohm loads.

One of two things will happen here:
1) It will cut the mustard and I keep it, or
2) It sucks, and I get a Rane HC6, which is what I should have had all along anyway. The Rane DOES cut the mustard, probably the best one out there.

*ouch with that 250 difference you can get a half oz of purple haze and with what you have left over you could buy some blunts...thats how i'd think anyway :D
 
I've had a 4700 for a few weeks now. Seems to do the trick but it would be nice if it had a little more power and rear aux inputs.

I guess I'll find out, huh?
Might be a Rane in my near future.
 
My 4400 has done me a great job. It may not be "pro" quality but it does perfectly what it's supposed to do - let you hear what you're tracking. As for more power..... I don't really want to lose my hearing and that's what would happen if it got any louder than what it is. I'm sure it would sound better at lower levels with more power though but I don't really care.. it sounds good enough to get the tracks in. Rather have the better sound on the playback/monitoring side. And mine is very quiet or at least it is now that I've run balanced lines in to it......had some low level hum before that. I'm perfectly satisfied. If it dies, I'll have another one ( well, 4600 or 4700 ) as soon as UPS can get here with it.

It's probably enough for most people. I'm using Harvey's headphones (good but not all that loud) through a 20ft extension and I usually have the amp maxed out for the musicians. If they have trouble hearing their part while tracking I just run them through some buss compression for monitoring to bring up their level. Seems to work fine.
 
This may be the reason why I dont have "power" problems...

I feed the 4400 with the headphone out (amp) of my 01v. So, I can give the 4400 a -preamplified- input. Obviously, I dont turn the volume at 10 on the 01v, the 4400 will certainely not like this, but, turned to 5, I have all the power I need, even more.
 
We have used the Behringer HA in a few studios. They did the job for tracking. In my studio we are using a DOD HA w/ some More Me headphones. They do the trick to!
 
Any update on the Behringer 4700? Also, does the EQ work? (I have some old sets of phones that need tweaking.)

Anything else to look at in the price range? In the budget range, I like the Samson Que-8 ($100, 4-channel, 8 cans), but I haven't checked out the 4700 beyond the magazine ads.

mine showed up last week, but i didn't hook it up til tonight thanks to hurricane isabel last weekend.

i like it. build construction is cheap yet solid enough for $100, it's simple, sounds good enough and has enough juice to power some more-me's well enough that i can easily hear them over the drums when i'm beating em. i *am* feeding it off one of the headphone outs from my mackie 24*4, though. it's not "fantastic" by any means, but it'll do just fine.

and in all honesty, that's exactly what i was hoping it would do.
