Rapper LL COOL J has blasted claims he's too old to make hip-hop music insisting he produces better albums than most young artists.

The 36-year-old hunk refuses to retire from the music industry because, like his idol MICHAEL JACKSON, he believes his music get better with age.

He says, "You tell me how many 20-year-olds have got better albums than me. You can't name that many. You gotta remember I started when I was very young.

"There's others who came out way before me who are older, but people look at me like I'm the old guy. It's crazy. When Michael Jackson made OFF THE WALL everyone asked him how he could follow it, and he dropped THRILLER.

"I think my best stuff is still in front of me."

Two years on what do you think?

on the real hip-hop artist have a short time to shine once they get into the light..but LL have been doin in over a decade and has been doin it commerical style..and this is why he lasted so long..but now the music that folks want to hear is different from then before..and its harder for the seasoned vets..to adapt to..I feel he had his time..his music make its statements and now it time to keep making the hollywood money..do a few quest appearance on albums to support hot up and coming talent..create new talent search..spread more info on the haps on the shady music business and mover to radio..LOL..

I really beleive Hip-Hop/Urban Muisc is the only genre that really puts aan age limit on their artist..

LL is a franchise, I think record labels look at an artist and figure how much shelf life they can get. If the artist is ok then he or she may need a few years to be great and then by that time they will have to consider if the artist will still be marketable and have appeal to their target audience. One hit wonders are like playing in the stock market you have to know when to buy them and know when to sell them. People like LL will consistently make a company rich because they are Icons not just artists. It's funny that they mess with LL when he is pretty much the same age as Nas, Snoop Dog, Mystikal and only a couple years older than, Outkast, Juvenile, Snoop Dog, Redman, Method Man..and is younger than DMX, Jay Z, Master P, Jermaine Dupri.....

EPMD went through the same thing and those dudes are only like 34 years old.

so true..but...Jay is looking at LL as a franchise..and this is the problems that are goin on over at def jam..the reason why artist are leaving..to me i really dont care if hes 50..if hes puttin out great music..

iF YOU GOT GOOD MUSIC, PHUCK AGE!!! I HATE IT WHEN HIP HOP FANS/ARTISTS START TALKIN THAT AGE SHIT - CUZ MUSIC HAS NO AGE. ROCK ARTISTS HAVE VIABLE CAREERS WAY AFTER THEIR SUPPOSED HEYDAY, AS DO RNB, ETC.

HIP HOP PEOPLE ALWAYS SHOOT THEMSELVES IN THE FOOT. ONE ARGUABLE POINT ABOUT MUSIC, AS FAR AS BEING A LEGITIMATE ARTISTIC ENDEAVOR, IS WHETHER OR NOT THE ARTIST IN THAT GENRE CAN BE WORTHY AFTER THE INITIAL "BANG"

NOW I AGREE THAT AFTER A WHILE, ARTISTS SHOULD DO MORE THAN JUST "GRAB THE MIC" - IT WOULDNT KILL MR. SMITH TO HELP FIND, CULTIVATE NEW ARTISTS . . .

AND LASTLY, ITS REAL REAL FUNNY HOW PEOPLE "GROUP" OLD SCHOOL VS. NEW SCHOOL ARTISTS AND A LOT OF TIMES THE AGE DIF. IS MINIMAL - ITS MORE ABOUT HOW LONG U BEEN IN THE "MAJOR LEAGUES" CUZ IF A 38 YEAR OLD COMES OUT WIT A BANGIN ASS, CLUB SONG NEXT YEAR, HE WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED OLD SCHOOL -
