Too Much Static When Recording

Hi,
I downloaded two free recording programs. One is Kristal Audio Engine and the other is Multitrackstudio. When I record through the microphone, it sounds pretty good but when I record from a song stored on the hard drive or a CD, it sounds very staticky almost unbearable to listen to. Can anyone tell me why? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

It's hard to say without listening to it but it's probably clipping. How are you recording these songs?

Static When Recording

In the program multitrackstudio, I picked on the INPUT icon. Then went to the Recording Control Box and selected Stereo Mix. Then recorded the song that I was playing either on the hard drive or CD. It had a lot of static sound to it. Do you or anyone else out there know how this program works? I sure would appreciate some help with it. I am new to recording and have no idea what is meant by things like CLICK TRACKS OR PLUG-INS but I sure want to learn. Thanks.
