Too Much Gain!

I just used my "new" setup for the first time and encountered something I really did not expect. My new setup is eight DMP3 mic pres vs. my "old" setup, which was a Mackie 1604 using the channel inserts to provide discreet ouputs.

The issue (and it's a big one) is that the DMP3s don't have the capacity to reduce their output to zero (like a channel strip does). In fact, since I am using relatively high output mics (MXL 603S) and micing a drumset, even at the lowest possible gain, even with the High/Low gain output switch set to low, I am still driving my input channels into the red.

I am coming out of the DMP3s into a Tascam MX-2424.

Has anyone else dealt with this? What to do?

Thanks,

Poco

Are there pads or attenuators on the next device in the chain ?

Do your mikes have pads? ( i am not familiar with the mikes you listed) .

Have you pressed the High Gain/Low Gain button on the DMP 3 to the in position
That should knock about 20 dB off right away
