A GUY I'm recording loves his Fulltone Brooklyn OD, this thing is noisy as hell. I'm having a hard time getting him on "tape without hiss. any suggestions?

Record it. Then try using a quality noise reduction plug on it of the kind that'll take a noise print of the quiet part (where there's no guiar playing) and use that as it's guide to remove the noise.Big Kenny said:
If the noise is too complicated, the NR plug may not be able to work without messing with the guitar. You'll just have to try it. If you don't have a good NR plug or the noise is too tough for it, then you might want to try a compound limiter/expander plug. Expand the bejeezus out of the signal, limiting it from clipping the guitar on the high end, but throwing the noise level down as many dBs on the low end as it will take before the sound falls apart.
Or, you could throw up a fake mic on the cabinet, secretly record him direct, and then re-amp it cleaner after he leaves

LOL that's what I'd do
also what about running through a noise gate from the pedal into the amp?? I have a rocktron hush which is good for that. set the threshold to just cut out the hiss & fire in. Of course if no hush is available good luck
BNR on protools has rescued me a few times indeed

I think I'll grab one of those hush pedals, if they do the job, it'll be worth having one around

they work well if the part is played with a consistant volume sometimes the quieter things get gated out like dalay tailing off etc etc
but if in your current case it's to remove the hiss it should be perfect, as the volume of the guitar will be far higher than the hiss (I hope)

Worked like a charm Slidey! I got the pedal version for $60 and it takes the hissssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss right outta there. very cool! Best inverstment I've made in awhile.
