hi all, quite new to this game so i'll tell ya my prob, hopefully someone might be able to help me out.managed to record a mix onto me comp, split it up so it shows up as 13 tracks, burnt it to cd,when i listen to it 1 or 2 of the mixes and tracks have too much bass'n'stuff, maybe i recorded it too loud but even reducing the volume doesnt really help, thers just too much bass in it,how can i make it all one level.i've got a good pc and i've got a version of cubase vst 32 demo, creative wave studio, sound forge 6.0 beta.have i got the right software for the job?hopefully someone will know what i'm talking about, plz help, ter

If you have the original tracks (you did back them up??) you can simply pull the volumes of the bass down.

If all you have is a 2-channel stereo mix, you're screwed. You can't take individual tracks apart once its mixed.

What you are wanting to do is to adjust/reduce the bass in the specific track that is too bass-heavy. I think a filter and/or a EQ in the software program is what you want to use to reduce this problem.

However, like the previous post said, if you have already merged all the tracks together, that will be a difficult task because rather than just being able to adjust the 'problem track', and modifications you make will affect the entire mix.

Good luck!

Does Sound Forge 6 have a multi-band compressor? (they used to call it Multi-Band Dynamics.) You could try various settings on that to compress and/or reduce the amount of bass. It's much better to do that during mixdown, but if it's already mixed, this can help a bit. Simply EQing could work, but might take too much low off of the rest of the mixed track. I think band compressing would salvage more of what you want. Not perfect, but can help quite a bit. You'll have to play with it a LOT though to it right.

Ferinstance, it could be the low low bass, say, below 60hz, that's getting to ya. Many folks roll off everything below 40hz. This can have a surprising effect on clarity. Or a low shelf band compressor from 80hz or so could keep some of it in check. Not having heard your tracks, this may not apply to you, but could be worth trying if you can't go back and remix.
