I'm looking to buy my first real synth,but I'm not sure what to get.
my music is kind a like porcupine tree ambient space rock with out those expensive synths.what should i buy for this?
these are some models i've been intrested;
*Waldorf Xtk
Micro Q
*Novation K-station
*Access virus indigo
most likely waldorf Xtk...

Give me your opinions,useability and other suggestions that might be worth checking out...

Virus indigo?? Why the indigo? I've been looking at the virus a while ago, and the indigo, which had a smaller keyboard and less features (on the keyboard part) than the kb, was more expensive anyway??

They recently released the 3rd series, btw. Which means the prices of the other 2 series will decrease soon. Especially on the used market.

Why isn't nord lead on your list?

I've got the KStation's rack counterpart, the AStation, and it's definitely a cool, cool module. Really fat ass sounds with lots o knobs for tweaking. I've also been doing alot of research on the Waldorf and think it's the same deal just a bit fatter sounds, and price tag, but 44 knobs, phew...

icro Q vs. Access Virus

I have both of these synths. they are both great as far as I am concerned. When making mostly ambient synth type music, I tend to lean towards the Virus though, to be quite honest, if I only had one or the other, I would be find in this genre. both of these instruments can handle what you want to do in the ambient, electronic musci field. AND, both are multitimbral which allows you to build multiple sound tracks. I do combine them but that is a luxury that you don't need. I also have an EMU 6400 Sampler and a Korg Karma. When making music that requires "real" instruments, I usually use the Karma, Emulator and a Kawai MP 9000 for piano, electric piano and the Micro Q for the synth sounds. As I said above, I don't intend to lean towards the Access for ambient synth music, it just happens. I will try to post some sounds, however, my MP3 skills are not quite up to snuff yet. I am writing from my office, every thing musical is at home under a different name. I will give it a try when I get there tonight.

Over and out....

Phil McKracken

OH heres a funny name, I saw a Yga instructor that does Kripalu Yoga as in "cripple you". Could this be real?
