I have been looking for a tom mic mount with versatile placement so I can mic two toms with one mic. I haven't seen anything I like in the stores or internet, but I did see something at a concert and I have no idea what it was. It clamped on the rim and the mic was on a small arm that seemed to swivel on a ball. Does anyone know where to find that or any thing else that will work? I know about the audix d vice, but I have heard that the goose neck does not hold position very well.

Remember, claws and such are really meant for live use. Clips attached to the toms can and will conduct the drum's resonance and can even damage the mic with long-term use.

I didn't want to use boom stands which I do have because my space is tight and my drum set is already large and cluttered as it is. I haven't thought the vibrations would hurt the mics. I was thinking if the clamps had good shock mounts they would be ok. I just picked up a couple of audix d 2's and I woudn't want to hurt them. Looks like Ill probably just use the booms, thanks for the input.

If you're in a room so small that you can fit stands for tom mics, than you have bigger problems when tracking drums.

Drums do not do well in small rooms. End of story. In my opinion any attempt to "deaden" the room does nothing to help a drum sound. Natural ambience is where the big money drum sounds are.

I'm not even talking some super treated drum room or anything. A living room will work if it sounds decent. In general though, small rooms plus drums equals headaches later.

The room isn't small, its actually a garage, just has a lot of junk in it. I am confined to a small area, with a car taking up half, and a weight bench taking up part of the other half. Its rough but its all I have to work with right now.
