Anyone have input as to the quality/bang-for-the-buck that both the current Trident mic pres/channel strips (S20 and 4T) and the Toft pres/channel strips offered by PMI...both claim to be direct descendants of the much revered Trident vintage consoles (Toft and Orum being the primary designers)...how do these pres stack up against the other $1000. pres out there?...any hands-on feedback would be appreciated...

if i wanted a good fender, i'd buy a GnL
not a fender

but i've not heard eithor of them

The Trident s20 is a good sounding pre, yet does not seem much like the original pre to me. It seems mucm more like a nice "modern" preamp to me. It is certainly a quality piece though. The Toft doesn't really sound like the older trident though either. But then, it isn't "supposed" to. The EQ is kind of getting there though. Much different than a lot of your current channel strip EQ sounds. Keep in mind that the Toft has 2 channels with pre, EQ, and compression for about $1000. If I remember right, the s20 costs more and is just a preamp.

If you decide that you want REAL Trident, drop me a line. I am selling two actual Trident channel strips racked with a power supply.
