I just posted some songs from today's street gig. My dog was sleeping at my feet, Shazar, the Turkish flower lady, brought me some cool watermelon, the owner of the music store I in front of, brought out a bunch of old harps from the 50's somebody gave her, a guy listened for 1 hour and just walked away without saying a word, a guy clapped to the beat as he drove by on his bike, kids danced in the streets as they walked with their mothers, my wife stopped by to say hi, the traffic noise was loud as usual..... Another day on the street. I love it! Walter

you can recognize the new songs by the "street session" after the title

Hey Walter,

I'm trying to listen to your songs and I notice they are only available to stream. The link points to an .asx file.

Windows Media Player will open up after you click the link to listen, but then it reports an error. Most of your listeners are using Windows Media Player, probably more than 60% of them at homerecording.com .

I've tried to stream them on a Windows 2000, an XP, and a Windows 98 machine with no luck. Windows media player reports an error.

I hope you would choose to make your new additions to your site at http://www.nowhereradio.com available for download for at least four or five days, or a week, and then change them to stream only later ... this is a lot easier on those of us who are using dial-up connections.

When folks download, you can't tell from your statistics, but I can't listen if you don't give us the download option.

You could consider making the download option available to nowhereradio.com members only ...

Sorry about that. I tried the songs just now and they play fine on my computer. I have a dial-up also. On the media player choices, I picked the second option. Can you switch player choices? I use musicmatch jukebox.

I took them off free download because we are in the process of putting up spontobeat.com (thanks). Friends have encouraged me to not give away my music anymore because they reminded me that my main points in putting this stuff out are to raise awareness to the Smiling With Hope Founation, and to make some $ for it. We are almost ready to put out a second cd-Metal on Metal, which will be a solo, metal resonator guitars and harps session. Alpine Hall came out this week and we have sold a few copies. I have enjoyed giving my music away for free, but see their point. Is there some way I can let people hear it and not download for free? I am not a very good businessman. Walter

Well, yer honest ... and that doesn't make for good business , but it makes for good friends !

Let me think about all this. I know I can get them to play, I'm just being lazy. But if I run into an error with the way I have my Windows Media Player set up, that's not a good sign because I'm set up how the 'typical user' is set up.

I'll get to these things no problem, and I think it is wise at this point to limit the downloads.

Yes, the 'lo-fi' option is working for me, It's streaming now.

Hey Buddy!!!

I just streamed rockin in the street.
I really liked that. It's turning into a busy month for me so i'm not around much.
Be sure to keep us posted on the spontobeat.com situation.
I'm sure some will call it spamming, so maybe just let us know when it is up and running in a song post:D

Use a different encoder (or at least different settings) for your mp3. Whatever you are using is not compatible with WMS.

I just switched to the external window media player option in the artist administration area. Did that do it? I posted 2 new songs today's street session - everyone loves mocha the dog and sitting in your town. The mocha one captures 2 old ladies walking by, who came right up in the middle of a song, and petted my dog mocha. They were hard core dog lovers. Walter

Nooo... No amount of messing with the settings with download disabled will make it work, unless you re-encode, and re-upload.

Try using LAME, works every time in CBR (sometimes even in VBR, but very few players support VBR properly).

the real waldo: thanks for your input. I had no idea I would open such a can of worms by just deleting free downloads. I will have to spend some time on this. I am not very computer literate. On a more positive note, I have samples of my music available at this site. We just put it up tonight. It is just a begining. Walter
