Toa RX-7-164 problem

Hello all!

I have recently purchase a TOA RX-7-164 console from a friend (for $200 it seemed like a great deal) The problem is after an hour or so it just completely shuts down. Leave it off for a while and turn it back on and it will work for a little while then shut down again. I don't know alot about electronics. I'm guessing it's the power supply getting too hot. Any suggestions as to what the problem may be would be GREATLY appreciated.

If you have a thermally defective component inside the unit, the trick to finding it is to wait till it shuts down from the over heating and spray the suspected parts with a freezing spray and when you cool the offending piece with the spray and the unit instantly comes back to life, you will have found the problem and can replace the part.

I don't have a handy link to cooling spray but, perhaps some of the techier members here can post a link or correct my advice if I have said something horribly wrong!:eek:

I'm not familiar with this console, but my wild guess is a component in the power supply has seen better days.

I strongly suggest you sneak up behind the friend you bought the console from and shoot some of the cooling spray down the back of his shirt, preferably while you're watching Fear Friday on AMC. Any of the Halloween movies will do. Jaws is good too. The important thing is to time it with a jump scene, such as the head popping out of the hull of the boat in the original Jaws.

Within about 5 seconds of your attack is the time to ask if he knew the console had a problem before he sold it to you. Since his subconscious thinks he has almost just been eaten by a shark, he will probably just blurt the truth out to save his soul.
