About a year ago I was really up on my research about home recording. But everything has changed.
I'm looking to get into a digital recoder that is moderately priced and fits my basic needs (mostly rcording guitars, vocals, and turntables, and the ocational drum set).
So far I've been looking at the ZOOM MRS1044, and the FOSTEX VF-160.

Does anyone have any recommendations regarding these two, or a better?

My concerns of the ZOOM is regarding the amount of inputs and simultanious recordable tracks available.
My concerns for the FOSTEX are that I heard that it dosn't have many virtual tracks--does that mean I can't keep recording tracks and compressing them, like the Roland and others.

Also, take a good look at the Yamaha DAW2816. A bit of a learning curve and if you ever buy one, make sure your read page 12 of the manual and copy it and place it beside the unit for a while. Page 12 tells you HOW TO SHUT DOWN THE UNIT, just like a pc, which is really is in miniature.

Great sound from the unit. But, it has another Achilles heel. I just ordered a UPS box to keep the unit running in case electricity goes out while recording. Without this unit, it is possible to whack out the HD and lose tracks that have been recorded. Aside from that, the unit really hums.

Now that I can get around on the unit fairly well, I feel that I'll get some really good stuff from it. Goes from 16 tracks, to mix down to stereo two tracks and you burn the CD right in the unit.

Lots of other choices though. Depends on what attracts you.

Up, up, and RECORD>
