In fact the one from Amazon may very well be a Version 1 model !!!!!

Yes that's the one.

I've resonantly been looking at THIS microphone as my next new microphone purchase have you seen it?

$299. but I've found it for $249. around on the net.

I was actually looking into that.

At the risk of being a 2200a evangelist, it's an excellent mic for the money. It's sound is very similar to the Neumann U87 (which I don't own but have used in my former professional life) but at a tenth the price. The U87 is perhaps a bit more "airy" but the differences are so subtle that it takes really critical listening to tell them apart.

I "voted with my feet" and now have more than one 2200a.

Studio Projects mics were a big favourite of mine when they first came out--really the first "cheap" LDC to really perform well. However, they now have a lot of competition in that price range--and may be "pipped at the post" by several others including the 2200a.

As for that package deal the OP found...it's about average. I wonder about the handling quality of that mic cable...I prefer ones with a nice soft rubber outer rather than a transparent gimmick.
