hElp HURrY HElP!!!

I just installed a Mia and can't quite figure it out completely yet. I have a session scheduled tomorrow night and I want it to go smooth. We will be recording live instruments on cool edit pro. I need to be able to hear what is being recorded while playing back pre recorded tracks. I goofed around with it for a few hours last night and sorted through the manual. Problem is I can't figure out the right configuration with my monitors. The labeling of the ins/outs with 2 numbers doesn't quite make sense. 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8... is this because they are all stereo ins/outs?

I'm using Windows ME.
Basically I'm using a Behringer MX602A before the card

Channel inputs :6

Mono channels :2

Stereo channels :2

EQ (mono channels) :3-band

EQ (stereo channels) :3-band

Aux sends:1

Stereo aux returns:1

2-track input/output :RCA

For monitors I use a home stereo system (stereo RCA input) and a set of PC speakers with a sub woofer (mini jack).

I tried running out of 7/8 to a stereo Y connector into the aux returns didn't come across in stereo.

I tried running out of 7/8 into stereo Y into stereo RCA tape in but also did not come across in stereo.

So as a work around I'm running out of my old sound card but I can therefore only monitor the sound being played back, not recorded. So I ran the out from 7/8 into a Tascam POrta07 where I also ran a line in from the tape out of the Behringer so I could hear what was being recorded. Problem is I know that's not right. I want to hear what the computer is putting out on the recording as it's being recorded. Any ideas?

The different numbers are "virtual outs" so that multiple computer programs can be running and send audio out of the soundcard at the same time.

This is all explained on page 16 of the manual - which is also available as a PDF download from the Echo site. (You DO read the manuals???)

Just set the outs of your program to 1/2 and it'll work fine.

Yeah Tim I read the manual but it's a little confusing to me. For one you have to skim throughto find the sections on the Mia...couldn't they just make a seperate manual for each soundcard!?

This are my problems:

I am receiving a signal in my multitracking software from my external mixer, but only one side of the stereo signal. I've tried every possible way of routing it. I'm using a stereo Y connector from 2 1/4" outs on the mixer to one balanced 1/4" input into MIA (out 1/2). I also tried running into the S/PDIF but that doesn't seem to work.

Also, I can't hear the sound going in to the sound card, only what is being played back. It makes it very difficult to record!

Additionally, I can't seem to get the output in stereo! By watching the meters it appears that it is trying to send a stereo signal out, but I'm only receiving 1/2 (one side) at my external mixer!!!

Yo Rats:

Mail me & leave me a number you can be reached at if you want me to swing by & take a look at it.

I'm pretty good at getting signals routed correctly, and about 30 minutes down the road from you.

Holy shit it's true!!! And all this time I've been wondering what's become of Dougie Johnson!:D

Why did you never tell!?

I'm taking back this soundcard to guitar center, I'm not happy with it. I think I'll pick up a Delta in this price range. It's not very user friendly IMHO. Neither are those whack aholes at guitar center:mad: I swear to guard I'd never go back to GC if it weren't for the prices and selection.:(

However if I still have troubles I'll let you know! Shit I'll let you know even if I don't have troubles! I've got some stuff I wanted to talk to you about and have been looking for you! Email me your email address: you don't have the email button!!!!!

Hey Rats,

going the Delta route, if you need midi i/o go with the Audiophile....it has pretty much the same features as that bitch ass ho Mia but the connectors are unbalanced RCA:mad: still not a problem if cable runs are short.......if you dont need midi i/o you can go with the Delta 44 and it has 1/4" balanced inputs.....the 44 seems to be going for around $229 these days new.....

http://www.digitalproaudio.com/
these dudes have it for $215.....you actually have to add it to your cart to get the price but print out the page and get some dumb ass at GC to match it......

and if you have problems getting it going, Idiot knows a guy that may be able to help ya out.....

Thanks gidget but I beat you to the punch. Rats picked me up an audiophile last night! So far so good EXCEPT I can't hear what I'm recording as I'm recording. Weird. I'm registering an input signal in the software, and in in cool edit, and I can successfully record a track. Just can't hear the damn thing while I'm recording!!!! Yeah I wish v'idiot would get his ass in here and send me his email addy!!!

Make sure your monitoring system is hooked up to the analog outs (RCA's)

make sure in the Control panel:

MONITOR MIXER
all your faders are up, stereo groups are checked, and non of the mutes or solos are checked......slide your pan faders hard left and right....check off #1 AP.....

PATCHBAY/ROUTER
check off monitor mixerfor both H/W OUT 1/2 and H/W OUT S/PDIF.....check off #1 AP ( if you are not hearing what you are playing, ill guess you have WAVE OUT selected under H/W out)

HW SETTINGS
check internal xtal
codec sample rate to 44,100 (if thats what youll use)
check rate locked and reset rate when idle (i dont know why)
check single and in sync and consumer
check disable control of the monitor mixer........
buffer (set wherever it works for you....start off at the highest just to get started)

S/PDIF
check off consumer

...or maybe you should just keep buying soundcards until you get one that works without any setup. :) ouch, couldn't resist...3 in about a week is it???? :)

Slackmaster 2000

3 is right.....from Sb Live to Mia to Audiophile.....

but whos counting.......

Well...

This looks like a good place to post my question... since I haven't found a "which of these cards is better" thread yet...

I'm looking at getting the Echo MIA... so are you'all saying I should run screaming into the hills away from the MIA, or is this just a isolated incident?

The two cards I have mainly been looking at are the Audiophile and the MIA... but now you throw in this Delta 44 (is that better than both?) and so I'm all goofed up.

I'll only be recording analogue out of my Behrenger mixer... no midi is needed,.. (but I guess I wouldn't mind having it for future use) so which one would best suit me in this price range??? (around $200) Or is there even yet another option I wasn't aware of?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

WATYF

you can get the Delta 44 for $219. not much more than Mia...and its a 4 in 4 out card......

So.. you're saying that I should pick a Delta 44 over the Audiophile and the MIA, eh?

Just makin' sure that's what you're implying.

Actually slackie it's been more like 4. Still trying to find that self-installing/ configuring one :D

Oh, and slackie thanks for not giving me that excellent advice that you gave to v'idiot, which would have saved me a lot of time had I had the common sense to figure it out myself, which was the part about downloading the driver updates from the midiman.com site. You're a big help:eek: :D

im confused

i have been looking at the mia for a month or so and when i get my next paycheck in 4 days i am planning 2 get it..
this is what i want to do:
go from the mixer into the ins and go from the outs to a headphone amp out 2 headphones

i am 15 and without a huge budget but i can afford the mia and as much as i can tell, i can do what i need 2 on it.
please e-mail me at mattklopot@hotmail.com

Rats... Did you ever get that thing working? I probably wasn't much help on Pal Talk, but I was wondering if I got you going in the right direction at least with the Audiophile...

Well I'm not sure. There is the thread down below "Attention Audiophiliacs" that I'm trying to work things out with. Thanks for your help the other night. Problem still has yet to be resolved.:(
