cubase vst 5
a mic

I can hear everyones screams of jealosy.

but, hey, I'm having fun.

Alot of it is based toward live sound as I need the income from playing gigs and providing sound for other bands in small venues to help afford my recording gear.

So far:

PentIII 800Mhz

Cool Edit 1.2a (legit)

Various DX Plugins

Behringer Eurorack MX2004A (I know)

Mackie HR824 Monitors (Ex display models- best buy ever)

HK Audio E.L.I.A.S. 1K powered speaker system

Zoom RFX-1000

M-Audio Delta 44

Pearl Export drum kit

Hughes and Kettner 200w bass amp and cab

Because the shitty Behringer mixer has NO PHANTOM POWER(!!!) I need a good preamp so I can stop using the C1000 with the battery and get a good LD condensor. So I am currently saving for...

PIII733MHz, 10GB, 128MB - mediocre numbers I know - but except for HD space (too much HalfLife and Diablo)I have no issues

WinXP Pro
Standard + SubW& 2 Better speakers (not quite monitors..)
Roland RH-50 Headphones
Cakewalk ProAudio9
Roland XV-88 Synth (My precioussss....)
Roland UM-1 USB MIDI Interface

Now that my savings have started recovering after that synth etc, I'm about to hit them again with, probably, the following:

M-Audio Audiophile 2296
Shure SM58
M-Audio Audio Buddy (Comments?????)

God knows there's plenty of acoustic guitars, at least one piano accordian, and harmonicas, and half a violin lying around amongst relatives' places. Once I get the soundcard, mic and pre, I guess the audio recording can go bezerk.
After all, at least when it comes to pop, it can be those odd little instrumental sound samples that make your song hey.

Hi there,

My humble set-up

ComputerStuff

P166, 80 MB RAM, Win98SE
1,5 GB HD (150 Mb left)
40 GB Maxtor 7200 rpm diamondmax HD installed but is not working yet.
Audiowerk2 soundcard using Logic Audio composer (=Logic 3.6) as audio+midi sequencer.
Midiman 2in/4 out PC midi interface

Somehow I can record and play some audio tracks with this system. And get decent results. It's almost like working on my old Fostex 4-tracker you got to work really hard to make it sound good.

Next month I hope to get a new system based around Logic Audio Gold. Probably pentium and thinking about Mac. But I think I can get a decent specified audio PC with Logic Gold (major upgrade) for the price of a G4 (733 Mhz) and no new software ! Wintel wins again ? By the way, talked to an Mac salesperson the other day he told me Apple is kind of mysterious in supplying discounted "old models" when a new series arrive. My guess is that at one break even point they retract older models from the market in favor of selling the new ones. Maybe that's why macs are so expensive you also pay for the ones they probably destroy !

Outboard:

Samplers/Synths:
Akai S5000 sampler fitted with USB so controllable with Ak.sys software from the PC.
Akai S950 sampler (12 bits grainey sounding machine)
Yamaha SU700 groove sampler, fun but expensive toy, should have bought a MPC2000XL or computer instead at that time.
Roland MC-303 GrooveBox, big fun, but sounds in general are not of really good quality.
Roland TR-626 rhythm composer

FX processors:
Alesis Quadraverb
Alesis Midiverb III
Alesis 3630 compressor
Alesis MEQ 230 equalizer

Mics:
SM57
SM96

Others:
Fatar SL61 master keyboard
PRS custom, helluva guitar
Peavey 5150 amp
Marshall speakercabinet
a Fernandes Bass
Event 20/20p monitors
Spirit Folio SX mixer
Mackie 1202 micro series mixer
Behringer patchbay

And that's it really,
Cheers BigBee

Heres the punch line - Everything (except the PC and the guitar) is less than 2 weeks old. I've been lurking here for quite a while, finally went out 2 Saturdays ago w/ the Visa - (it's still smoldering in my back pocket!)

Any advice on explaining all this to my wife?

my recording setup looks somethin' like this:

- a ghetto blaster from 1981
- shiny spoons

Just like the good 'ol days eh?

Rock on!

DAW or Duh

I bought a gateway p4 with windows xp. BIG MISTAKE! I can't get my aardvark Q-10 up yet and I have to replace the cheap damn motherboard they put in this thing. They put an elpaso 82845 chip set in this and i needed the 82850 chip set.
Whatever you do, don't ever do a mail order form one of the big guys and if you do, make sure you know what chip set is in there and see if it is stable with the digital gear you're getting. and make sure there are no driver problems with it, that it's compatable with Win XP
