May be somebody could help me with this strange effect which is driving me nuts:

Any second track I record in Cubase VST 5 also comes with the sound of the first one. Therefore, on the 5th track, all the four ones are also recorded, and so on. It has to do with some kind of feedback that I cannot find.

The sound card I use is an Audiophile 2496, that goes to a simple mixer (Phonic 1002a). I only use audio instruments, so far.

Another strange effect -may be in relationship with this one- is the nasty metallic sound I always get when pressing the record buttom.

Thaks a lot. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Really.

You need to ensure that you monitor your recorded tracks via a monitor out or Aux send to isolate it from the stuff you are feeding into Cubase.
if you are listing to what you have recorded through the same source as the one you are sending signal through , you will get all of it recorded onto your new track.
The monitor out or aux send should be a pre fader mix so you can control what you hear independant of what you feed in.
Have you had feedback problems? You should have had.
Any way see how you go. You might find your mixer doesn't support what i have said and you may need to monitor out of a different source besides your mixer you are feeding line in from.

Hello Corky

Thank you very much for your quick response and your help. I will take advantage of this and I will ask you another few things about the problem, if you don't mind.

-From what I can understand, the problem would come from the way I have connected the Audio in the mixer. As you said, the Audio Output an Input belong to the same devices. I don't know how to insolate them via the mixer neither the Soud Card, in case that is doable. The Output from the mixer is called "Main", and there is no more Outputs, as far as I can see. The Sound card should have provision for this eventuallity, but I cannot find it.

-By another hand, I also installed a SB live! -appart from the Audiphile- in my PC. Could I select the Audio Out for the SB, and keep the Audiophile for Audio In? I know this is not the most elegant solution, but I would like to ask you if it could overcome the problem.
Should I make this configuration through Cubase? How?

Again, thanks!

Alejo.

This may not solve all your problems but if you get too frustrated try mutting the other tracks when you record new ones.

Thanks for the advice, but how could I follow the rithm or the melody?.

Anyhow I think that is a good way to check where the problem could come. May be if I mute those tracks and the problem dissappears the solution could come via software. I don't know.

I'll tell you when I get home.

Thanks again.
