So far I've had the most amount of trouble getting different bass tones. I play an Ibanez Ergodyne 4-string through an ampeg 8x10. I'm currently borrowing a Gallien-Krueger 800 head - which I totally love.
I'm really into the deep sounding bass for live, but for recording that hasn't worked too well...it sounds too rumbly and does not cut through the mix too well.
I"m recording by putting a 57 on the grill angled 45 degrees so that the capsule faces up at the cone of the speaker. I'm also using a direct box, since the direct out of the GK is quite terrible insofar as noise is concerned. There is no pre/post switch on the D/O, so given the noise level, I assume its a post eq D/O.
The sound I'd like for the recording is a very deep but "live" string feel, almost as if I was playing with a pick. THe problems I've encountered is that whenever I try to boost the Hi-mids and start getting alot of noise AND I loose bottom end. I
Suggestions?
For examples of the a bass tone I like:
mp3.com
Band: drawtight
Song: To Water
