So I have a Delta 1010 running into an XP machine. My XP machine is getting tired and I would like something more portable anyway. I have a Macbook pro, so I figured I would get an iMac and use my Macbook for mobile recording.
Which leads me to the problem.
I've been out of the game so long that I'm not sure what the consensus around interfaces is any longer. I assume USB has won the connection wars. I also see that Tascam seems to have made some inroads into affordable interfaces.
I have about 10 standalone preamps that connect through balanced inputs to the Delta 1010. If I buy this Tascam 1800 will I be forced to use the built Tascam preamps, or can I bypass them? Or should I go ahead and use them instead of some of my cheaper stand alones?
Do you have a better idea for an affordable interface. I can't spend much, and the Tascam looks to be around $300. That's why I am gravitating towards it right now.
