Thrill is gone Colab

Excellent performance True and Doug....

There's a bit more reverb on the vocals than I would apply. However, the quality of the reverb makes up for a bit of that - that's the Lexicon, right? The vocals are spot on for blues in style and feel - nice one True. They are very clean and although back in the mix (reverb) they are easy to understand.

The backing tracks are very cool also.... The tone on the guitar suits the blues very well. Although it sounds like a humbucker, there is some vibrato bar action going on, so not an LP - what kind of guitar were you using?

You've mixed this well for a collab and allowed the vocals or guitar to dominate depending on the part in the song. Never stomping on the other....

Nice one - I enjoyed this....

:) :D :) :D

Thanks there ido,
I can still adjust reverbs, etc, I'll live with it a few days and see. My ears need a break from the tune for a couple days.

The reverb is the built in VST reverb in Mixcraft, my recording/mixing program.

The guitar is my Ibanez JS1200CA, pictured on this page.
Guitar pics

The amp is an 18 watt marshall type hand made tube amp into my Palmer PGA-04 speaker simulator into the sound card, into Mixcraft.

Wow sounds good, I like the song and the prerformances alot.

I agree, back off quite a bit on the verb on true, she's got a nice voice that is getting cluttered up..
Also, imo, the guitars are panned a little far to be that busy. A little distracting.
The drums need some help, the hat is a little loud and the drumtrack could use a little of the verb you take off the vox. :)

Nice, nice collab you two! True gives the vocals a cool Texas twang that give it a good blues authenticity, it had that feeling to me anyhow. And I agree the reverb comes across as kind of a cavernous sound, maybe mixing in a dryer vocal to bring it forward in the mix with some of the distant reverb sound for the background...I don't know but she wails it out very well!
The guitar sound could be a bit cleaner in the mix, but it works well and nice licks in there as well!

The mono mix is a little flat not that anyone listens in mono anyways, but the reverb on true just about disappears when mixed to mono, so whoever wrote the verb wrote a lot of phase reversal in. Just pointing it out, doesn't mean that its bad or anything. And true, you can really belt things out, amazing, we should be retracking my wife tonight on that song I posted awhile back, I wish you could give her some quick vox lessons.

Thanks all for the comments.

True should check in on this soon, she told me there was too much verb. :D

+1 on less 'verb on True. Or maybe decrease the reverb time a little.

Agree with Space about the drums. The hat could come down a little. I'm not crazy about the snare sample - it doesn't go well with the kick IMO. But it could come up a bit.

Really nice tone on the lead guitar! The rhythm guitar on the right could come up a hair.

Overall, though a very nice job!

The tone of the guitar is great !! The playing is precise and full of feeling. :)

Hey SRR !! Thank you so much for the kind words and listen too!!

SRR, your wife has a great voice !! I honestly couldn't give many pointers, as I just open my mouth and let 'er fly!!

Now, if ya want her to know about reverb, then you are onto something with me... :D

Again, thanks a million. I am looking forward to hearing the song you are retracking tonight.

True :)

Sorry to be a dissenter but I LIKE the vocal verb as is.
The drums are a bit up front for me.
Always loved this song - what no strings?

Don't be sorry, man! You stated your honest opinion and I always appreciate that!

Just 'cause I think you're wrong doesn't mean I don't respect you! :D ;)

Very impressive track. :)

The git playing is just right and very nice and emotional.

The drums and the bass are very nice together and work well together. And sound very nice too.

Vox: powerful. Powerful vocal performance. Very nice.

I side with the camp of reducing the verb on the vox slightly. I wouldn't even be upset if you removed some verb and raise the vox slightly. :)

I think Dogman's version was around here and I didn't get to listen to it. Maybe it might need to be brought back. :)

I'm going in right now to do a remix, check back.

see ya

Ok, new mix, Changes to mix 4 are:

Dropped Hi-hat level.
Added more verb to drums.

Raised right side Rythym guitar level.

Added dry vocal track down the middle, panned 0%, no effects.
Dropped verb level on True's left and right channel vocals, panned at -75% and 75%

Mix #4
The thrill is gone colab - True on vocals

Good changes Doug, noticeable right away. The vocals are much better but they still don't seem to be sitting in the same "room" as the guitar. Perhaps the guitar could use more reverb - not sure. I do like the performance / arrangement on this and the verb diff is just a small nit.....

Nice,
I would try to loose distorted guitar on verse parts and bring the other one a little bit closer.
I woulld try to use this one on both channels during verses.
Distorted rhythm guitar is filling nicely second solo.
The snare is better now but there is still something little what isn't right.
Overall: Good!
