thread for a dummy

Have been recording in analog for years, have a fostex model 80 at the moment, with a behringer, and tapco mixer. I know absolutely nothing about recording, or interfacing analog to computer. My question is, if i have 2 rca type jacks, or a stereo 1/8" jack, what is the best way to proceed to record this stuff into a compaq presario? (stop laughing, it's all i could afford) Have loved music for a long time, and recording to cassette is now seeming to be a waste of time. Thanks for any help you folks can give me i.e. sound cards, and a/d interfaces.....or shortcuts...chris

If you're using a laptop then you'll need an external soundcard.

If your laptop has a firewire port, a good place to start is the Presonus Inspire http://www.jrrshop.com/presonus-inspire-1394-p-6282.html
That will let you record 4 channels.

If you don't have firewire, you'll need to get a usb interface
