Thoughts on this studio layout?

Consider this as just my opinion, but if I were in your shoes I would probably try to find a regular university that has an audio engineering program rather than a school like Full Sail (which, by the way, is one of those schools that gets lambasted by a lot of studio pros for some reason; I have no first hand knowledge just stuff I've picked up on from the web).

With an audio engineering program you are more likely to get a good solid theoretical education in technical principals as well as hands-on experience. I personally have an electrical engineering degree and I think that my education (albeit a long time ago) has enabled me to more quickly understand the technical aspects of this recording stuff (you still have to do a lot of learning no matter what your degree is, especiall when it comes to the nuances of sound and how gear works).

Anyway, good luck.

I run a pro audio company. One thing i can tell you is that if someone applies for a job with my company and has formal schooling, there is a good chance I will NOT hire them. There seem to be very few schools out there that actually teach a person things (at least concerning the audio industry) that are useful and applicable in real life scenarios. Furthermore, almost every person who has had training and applied all expected to automatically be at the top of the totem pole and not have to do menial work such as loading and unloading trucks, setting up speakers etc...

I think there is a lot of great theory to be learned in school, but if you really want to know how it works, get out there and do it:D

While your at it. IF you are NOT a musician, take a class in the 60 chord system. Engineers STILL have to speak to musicians in terms of music if they want to communicate. Of course, many engineers simply do what the producer tells them to do. But if you are running your own shop...well, how do you tell a band to start the overdub at the FIFTH, 12th bar for a punch in. Or the guitarists A string is out of tune. Or the NEW singer wants to modulate to the key of F#? :D

bad example Fitz. Why would you ever want to sing in F# :D:D:D

F#m is a common key, and a modulation to the major key is hardly unheard of ;)
