I am looking at some new microphones, and i am wondering your thoughts on the Shure SM7B, the microphone that was "Used on the Thriller Album" I want a microphone that does not pick up as much backround noise, i love to make music, usually acoustic guitar with vocals, and my current microphone picks up every pop that my computer makes, and its bull shit, so what are your thoughts about this microphone.

This would be a good choice for your application. It is a pretty quiet mic, so you do need a decent amount of gain from your preamps.

I have no experience with that mic. However, in general, cheap tube gear will be of lower quality than solid state gear in the same price range. Tube circuits are more expensive to implement, so they would be more expensive than their solid state counterpart.

how about the MXL V69 tube microphone?

if you are having a problem with sensitivity and noise rejection your best bet would be the dynamic (SM7b in this case)
the 69 is still a condenser and you still might pick up noise from your computer.

i have an SM7 and i love it (especially for that low price), but like Farview said you will need a pre with lots of gain.

i use the sm7 for guitar amps and vocals. it rules. the gain thing isn't an issue if you have the right pre amp, but that's pretty much true for any mic.

well i have a pretty solid pre amp so i think i'll be good, thanks for the help

You can pretty much use the SM7 an anything...bass cab, kick drum, snare, guitar cabs, vocals, acoustic guitar...it's the most flexible mic in by arsenal for sure.
