Pre-Amps Advice

What would be the best pre-amp for the RODE NT2000 mic using a m-audio soundcard and Cubase to record rap vocals and instrumentation from a yamaha motif xj8?? - thanx

Haha thanks for the response, I have been running the mic directly into the m-audio interface and have been able to get some decent vocal sounds. I am looking to upgrade and improve my vocals though and try to do so in the 200-400 dollar range. Does using a pre-amp create a noticable difference? I have been using compression and limiting through Cubase to hone the vocals. I have the motif and roland fantom 61 key but want to improve the vocals and transfer of the instrumentation from the keyboards to the computer. I am looking for the next step. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well that isn"t true by a Long shot as there have been multi-Pattern Mics arround since there have been more than one Pattern...One thing it does seem to have from looking at it which you might be refering to is that you can seem to blend patterns which seems like a neat feature that I have never seen before...It also looks like you can dial in the ammount of Pad you want which I also haven"t seen before.....

It looks like a well designed Mic but for $1500 it better be......

I guess it would be worth it to try it out for a few days before commiting to buy it like Maybe rent it and a few other to compare them and take the one that sounds best because $1500 is a Lot to spend sight unseen or unheard....

Cheers

Huh? $1500 dollars? don't know bout america but here in the UK it goes for around £250 online ($500?)...

Let's try this again by asking a more direct question:

Please give me any personal advice, experience, or knowledge of this microphone:

A good friend uses the NT2000 in his new studio (run through a Presonus Firepod). I've heard it on a few voices (acapella). I think it sounds terrific -- accurate, quiet, unhyped. I'm sure there are other worthy candidates at this price (AT4040). But, if you can't get a great result from the NT2000, it won't be the mics fault.

I looked at and tried the NT2000 ... and bought an NT2-A. Same sound, less money. The continuously variable pattern is a neat gimmick, but in all practicality, isn't really important unless your applications and/or situations are also continuously variable.

Oddly, I owned a Wunderaudio pre-amp ... top shelf pres ... and between the clarity of the PEQ-1 and the mic, it sounded great on acoustic guitar, but really harsh on my voice.

I then bought a Peavey Tube amp ... and suddenly the mic came to life.

The only thing that surpasses it is my AT4050 ... which sounds KILLER through the VMP1.

But in a head to head, I'd still have gone w/ the less expensive NT2-A. Put any money saved into a good pre.

Best,

Kev-
