Those of you using Sonar, can I get a peek at your setup?

Just curious what you guys are using for your Sonar setups? Control surfaces, mixing consoles, soundcards, outboard gear? Just trying to get a few ideas. How about mastering? I'm looking at a few different setups, but would like some more options.

setup number 1:
Eurodesk SL3242FX-PRO Mixer
2 terratec Phase 88's
Sonar 4


I like this setup because it would give me that ananlog to 16 track, multitrack feel, that I am used to. It would also allow me to implement midi.


setup number 2:
1884 and 1 expansion
sonar

I like the intergration that this option offers, however I think that it will limit me on my submixes and talk back options.


I would appreciate any input that you guys may have.

Mackie 24-8's and other assorted pre's direct out to (2) RME ADI-8's, lightpipe to Dakota, Mackie for various routing duties, monitor mixes (sometimes analog mixes) playback and outboard effects back to Sonar3.

I just made the switch to computer recording from an aKAI dps16 and love it.

Tannoy passive monitors that I've had 10 years and still work great
A couple of ART mic pre's, Alesis compressor, BBE sonic maximizer

The sound quality beats the hell outta my old rig and I can record 16 analog tracks simultaneously. Great for tracking a 4 or 5 piece band all at once.

I have problems understanding that you're not able to run input monitoring with this system.

I have a 8 input/output card running on a Ahtlon 1900+ (1.6 GHz) with 1 GB RAM. I'm able to use Input Monitoring on all those channels at 2.9 ms latency without problems....

How do you record 4 or 5 piece band at once, each one in a separate track?

Do you record more that one track at a time on sonar 3 ?
What set up do you use>?
How would you chanel the input ports to the track.
In this case you still use the windows record mixer cause this will only let you use one chanel at a time.

Buzu,
To record several tracks at once, you need multi I/O sound card. Most of them support ASIO driver for better performance. If you have multi I/O card, then in Cakewalk you must see them in Options --> Audio --> Driver. Activate (select) multiple input. It's better to restart your Cakewalk, then in audio track, you can assign the track input you want.

In the other side, you also need multi bus mixer to route each mic / line to different input of your soundcard.

Thanks, I almost bought an Athlon64 3000 + motherboard combo from Fry's for $150 today, but I should probably do a little more research on the MB.
