Those of you using Sonar, can I get a peek at your setup?

Just curious what you guys are using for your Sonar setups? Control surfaces, mixing consoles, soundcards, outboard gear? Just trying to get a few ideas. How about mastering? I'm looking at a few different setups, but would like some more options.

setup number 1:
Eurodesk SL3242FX-PRO Mixer
2 terratec Phase 88's
Sonar 4

I like this setup because it would give me that ananlog to 16 track, multitrack feel, that I am used to. It would also allow me to implement midi.

setup number 2:
1884 and 1 expansion
sonar

I like the intergration that this option offers, however I think that it will limit me on my submixes and talk back options.

I would appreciate any input that you guys may have.

Matt

- V-Amp2
- Headphones amp: Behringer (again) HPA 4200
- Crappy reverb unit

(some more stuff, but this is the basic setup)

PC to be upgraded to Athlon64 2.2 GHz in December. :D

I run two PCs. One for MIDI thingee (Giga machine) and the other is Audio machine (Main DAW).

Dual monitor
SB Audigy & Delta 1010LT
Mackie 1202 Micro series

Intel P4 1.5ghz
256mb rambus
WinXP SP2
2 40gig 7200 rpm drives

(i need more ram, and faster PC, but i get along pretty well with this config).

CakeWalk Sonar 3.11 (I own 4, but I'm toooo damn familiar with 3.11 to give it up just yet).

M-Audio Delta 1010
Yamaha 12/4 mixing board
Behringer T1952 tube compressor (i don't care what anybody thinks, this thing rocks!)
Couple of mics, guitars, basses
plenty of cables (hehehhe)

Most of the effects I use are plugins to cakewalk... ie: blue tubes, guitar rig, sony stuff through Sound Forge 6...

I'm more of a computer person myself and I don't like having a million things in racks, i'd rather find a decent solution in software...

Mackie 24-8's and other assorted pre's direct out to (2) RME ADI-8's, lightpipe to Dakota, Mackie for various routing duties, monitor mixes (sometimes analog mixes) playback and outboard effects back to Sonar3.

My little setup also has to double as my work computer while at uni, so its got a fair bit of stuff on it. Anyway:

AMD Athlon XP 2000
512MB 333MHz DDR RAM
Gigabyte GA-7VA Motherboard
40GB 7200rpm Seagate hard drive (OS, programs etc)
80GB 7200rpm Seagate hard drive (Audio data and other assorted crap)
ST Audio (Hoontech) C Port sound card
Behringer UB2442FX Mixer (8 direct outputs for the CPort)
Sonar 2.2

Currently saving up for some monitors :S

overclocked Athlon 1.2
Sonar 2.2
Tascam M30
mAudio 2496
sblive for midi routing

old stuff but it works..

I just made the switch to computer recording from an aKAI dps16 and love it.

P4 3.2 with a gig of ram and 160 gig HD
Sonar 3.0
Motu 2408mk2 interface /8 analog ins
Behringer ADA8000/ another 8 analog ins via lightpipe
Tannoy passive monitors that I've had 10 years and still work great
A couple of ART mic pre's, Alesis compressor, BBE sonic maximizer

The sound quality beats the hell outta my old rig and I can record 16 analog tracks simultaneously. Great for tracking a 4 or 5 piece band all at once.

I have problems understanding that you're not able to run input monitoring with this system.

I have a 8 input/output card running on a Ahtlon 1900+ (1.6 GHz) with 1 GB RAM. I'm able to use Input Monitoring on all those channels at 2.9 ms latency without problems....

P4-2.4
2-80 gig hard drives
1gig Ram
Delta 66
Midisport 2X2
Hafler monitors and amp
Running at 2.9ms with plugs, dxi"s and multiple tracks
No mixer,I do everything myself so I don't feel a need for one.
Sonar3
Kompakt
Ozone
and just waiting to order a UAD-1 card! :D

I plan on going the same route soon. Any preference on motherboards? Ever think about a dual cpu motherboard--buying one cpu now and adding another later after prices drop and you have additional funds?

I'm really interested in your motherboard choice.

I'll get back to you as soon as I know. I really don't rember, I'll check when I get home.

How do you record 4 or 5 piece band at once, each one in a separate track?

Do you record more that one track at a time on sonar 3 ?
What set up do you use>?
How would you chanel the input ports to the track.
In this case you still use the windows record mixer cause this will only let you use one chanel at a time.

Buzu,
To record several tracks at once, you need multi I/O sound card. Most of them support ASIO driver for better performance. If you have multi I/O card, then in Cakewalk you must see them in Options --> Audio --> Driver. Activate (select) multiple input. It's better to restart your Cakewalk, then in audio track, you can assign the track input you want.

In the other side, you also need multi bus mixer to route each mic / line to different input of your soundcard.

We can talk about it long way in another thread, but lets keep this thread on track "The peak of your setup".

Thanks, I almost bought an Athlon64 3000 + motherboard combo from Fry's for $150 today, but I should probably do a little more research on the MB.
