Those $100 First Act guitars

Oh, I know that the guitars that artists play can be/usually are nicer than what is offered in the store. Wait...Paul Stanley's now endorsing Silvertone? Man, they shoulda called it quits with that first farewell tour. :rolleyes:

I was just confirming that he's apparently playing one, and the Guitar World buyer's guide in which I saw the ad had a review of one of their top o' the line guitars, and it looked pretty cool.

I saw that Buyers Guide. $1000.00 for a First Act? :eek: What's next a $100,000 Kia? This is just me but unless it really trumps a Gibson or Fender why waste the money when most people will say a lemon is a lemon no matter what you paid for it.

Paul Stanley probably did want to retire after the farewell tour but Gene wanted to keep milking the cow. Now Gene is on reality TV talking about what it takes to be a rock star to spoiled british kids. Gene should be thanking Paul for having the talent in Kiss and at least trying to keep Kiss relevant in the 80's and early 90's. Gene is hard rock's version of Puff Diddy, all bling but no musical zing.

I was skeptical when bought this guitar for my son but it turned out to be a great choice. The price is perfect but more important is how easy it is to play. Because my son has had to learn to play with his feet (he was born without arms) I never thought guitar would be his thing but this guitar proved me wrong. It's also very easy to tune. Although his foot gets stuck in the center hole once in a while, I don't imagine that's a common problem. All around this is a real bargain.

lol first act guitars are a joke. One of my guitar students bought an acoustic one when he began playing, and it snapped in half while tunning it. so he bought a second one - a week later it snapped in half too. it wasnt being tuned up or anything, it couldnt even take normal tension.
 
Now we're going overboard, those target sold acoustics have a great purpose. We bought my 4 year old one and she loves it, now she's 6 she can actually play and when she's a little older she'll get a better guitar and take lessons.

The cheapo first act guitar unquestionably have a role for the younger kids either as toys or as a way to get interested in guitar

I was with a friend and his son in Target a few weeks ago looking at toys. We played around with one of those little acoustics a bit just to see if it would tune and was playable. It half ass tuned and was half ass playable. I guess they make good toys and might spark some interest in young minds.

If I was going to try to get a kid interested in guitar I would spend a few more bucks to get one with usable action, decent intonation and one that could take a few knocks. If you stick a kid on a guitar that eats their fingers up and doesn't stay in tune and is a bear to play then they'll never stick with it (how long will you play a guitar that hurts your hands and makes you sound like crap?)

Gene should be thanking Paul for having the talent in Kiss and at least trying to keep Kiss relevant in the 80's and early 90's.

C'mon, this assertion that anyone in KISS is talented is highly suspect. I thought they were utterly ridiculous parodies of actual human beings when I was thirteen and I think they are talentless hacks today at 32.I don't recall them ever being relevant to anyone that wasn't obsessed with the rear differrential gearing in their T-Top Trans-Am.

She's wrong, the foot stuck in the sound hole is a common problem for people who play with their feet, I saw a warning on the box for that guitar, apparently some kid tried to play with his feet like all the rock stars, only he wasnt sitting down, so he tripped on it and hit his head.

Rear differential gearings? Since when do Trans ams have front differentals?
 
Hey..

I first learned to play on a first act combo pack from walmart.. it costed 160$ I believe.. I still have it too.. it's playable.. and First Act is supposed to have a REALLY good custom shop.. For the money you pay it isn't a bad guitar although if you bought a squier or a cheap ibanez, you might do a little better.
 
Best $99 guitar!

Fender makes a Frankenstrat in Indonesia called the Squier 51. It's a Strat body with a Telecaster neck, one single-coil and one humbucker pickup. List is $250, most big-box and online stores sell for $149.

I found mine at a Guitar Center in Oregon (no sales tax!) at a one-day Labor Day special for $99! It sounds phenomenal.

There are noticeable variations in quality, so I'd recommend inspecting and playing more than one, even if the store has to open a couple of boxes. Test the sound of the pickups through YOUR kind of amp, inspect the fret finish, etc. In my experience the factory set-up is usually excellent.
 
You can pick up a Japanese made stat copy on ebay for around the $100 range pretty regularly, some are better than the Strats selling for $500+ range. Samicks can be had for less than $100 to and they'll last.

This FirstAct guitar is garbage, don't throw your money away on one.
