are those cheap guitars really that bad? i want to get a guitar and that price is great... anyone had any experience playing them???

They are suppossed to be bad. I heard the string bend the neck really quickly.

For around the same price check musiciansfriend.com and look for the Behringer Guitar Pack, it's a guitar and amp for around $100. It's really good for the price. Both my kids and myself have one as do a number of friends. The guitar tech guy I know was very impressed. They are very light but produce a solid sound for the price.

PM me if you need more info.

Spend yer $100 at a pawn shop and you'll (probably) get a better guitar. I'd stay away from the FirstAct line as they are the cheapest possible materials with the shoddiest craftmanship. They are the most disposable of disposable guitars.

Certainly better than the Esteban guitars on QVC.

I bought a $60 guitar in a store in Japan that sounded pretty good until I tried to record it. The shame was, it played pretty nice, and had a decent neck. It just sounded really shitty when I recorded it (yes, I tried several mics and positions).

Sometimes you can find a jem, like GoldFalcon said, in a pawn shop. But most of the time, you are better off spending some cash.

Before you spend $100 on a Chinese made POS guitar that is totally unplayable, may I suggest this....

Aria is a name brand with a reputation and a history, unlike those crappy-ass First Act guitars. The above Aria Strat definitely looks (and will play) a million times better. Trust me on this. But I wouldn't wait too long, because someone's gonna snap that Aria up really quick at that "Buy It Now" price. It even has a coil tap switch!

Dude... that's a killer deal for that guitar!!

Pawn shops, yard sales, anywhere that sells used stuff, look around and spend your $100 wisely. You will be better off to pick up a better quality used guitar than to buy a low quality new instrument. Of course if you only play "air guitar" and don't care if it is really playable, or want it for a wall decoration go ahead and buy one. It's your money so spend it however you please but if it were me, I'd shop around and definately get something better.

Not sure where you live, but I've found some good deals on craigslist.com.

Last week, I got this guitar and this practice amp for $100.00 (for both).

I really kinda only wanted the amp, but he was selling both for $100.00, so I figured I could probably sell the guitar for $100.00 and basically get the amp for free. Problem is...the guitar doesn't sound too bad, and it's the only guitar I've ever had with a Floyd Rose-type vibrato...and it's fun as hell!

So, I agree...try and find something used for $100.00, and you'll probably end up with a better guitar.

those First Act guitars are pretty much for shutting up a kid that you know is'nt gonna stick with playing. they are the cheapest of cheap, quality wise.

Maybe the $100 price range is a little low. Have you ever played guitar before? Are you sure this is something you want to do? Maybe you could borrow one from a friend and have them show you a thing or two so you can really descide if this is the thing for you.

If it is I would reccomend mabe looking into a Squire Strat. Or if you can't possibly go higher then $100 then get something used.

I still say go with the Behringer, its a solid guitar for the price and saves you money if you want to upgrade later. The squire packs are still $200 or so and the guitars are worse (at least according to my guitar tech friend)

If I'm not mistaken, First Act guitars are the ones they sell at the front of Wal-Mart. That should tell you something about them right there.

you are not mistaken.

The fact that people from all over the world seem to know what a First Act guitar is should tell you how massively mass-produced they are.

I bought a squire for $99 new from Guitar Center (musicians friend) and I thought it was great. You just have to look for the sale. 2 colors I think red and blue. Better than first act.

Similarly, the Silvertone that Paul Stanley plays on stage is much nicer than the one Silvertone sells with his name on it.
