Nakatira

That Norwegian Bastard
I just finnished mixing this today, Thought I`d check it out over here and see what you guys think of it.

it`s an other recording with my band Deep Funeral.
the song itself is very Sabbath inspired. and I as always I`m going for that 70`s sound.
I`m doing vox, guitars and the mixing :o  .

all critisizme is welcome.

thanks :)

It sounds real good, only thing to critique is the drums. They have a "hum/muddy" sound to them. Vocals sound good also. Well actually drums sound better ... now that I really listen .. :D

I like this alot! Good mixing Nakatira.

Man, cool from the get go. Sabbath inspired, yet some modern sounds to it. Nice guitar tone. Bass sounds really good also. Drums aren't bad, but could use a little oompf in the mix. Might be the Mp3 conversion. Lots of sound for 128K, so that could be the limiter there. Vintage, Ozzy style vocals. Not upfront, just alongside the rest of the rythum. Very cool. I'll give you 2 beers up for this one. :D :D

Whoa, total Sabbath action here

Very cool guitar tones. This is sweet when the tempo picks up! The bouncy bass part & music also reminds me of... well your other Deep Funeral song. Very cool.

That long ending solo is killer! Great work.

Man, this rocked Snake Studios (my room), don't really have any suggestions/problems with your last two tracks on here. Very enjoyable stuff ;) I guess all I got right now is that it sounds like it ends too abrupt. Maybe throw in some more fading, silence at the end. But that's serious nitpicking there.

Good stuff :)

Heavy is right! This sounds like the lost basement tapes from Deep Sabbath. Sounds like Blackmore stepped in for the leads. I love everything about this, though, as was mentioned already, the drums can use some more life. I know you're going for that muffled 70's sound, but it might be just a little too muddy for this song. Still works though, but now it sounds like you're "trying" to get that muffled sound, where as the first time I heard you use that sound (Mr. Moonlight?) it just sounded natural. Besides that, you should put this in a time machine, it's classic rock at it's best.

Hi there, awsome reviews here, thanks alot guys.

I have to say I`m not totally loving the drumsound either, this was different kit, it was a big premier kit instead of my usual Pearl, and the drummer is a really hard hitter so his kit is baring signs of it, but we managed to tape and mend all the loose pieces together.

Maybee I`ll try "the leathal sin" adding some reverb, maybe a small or a medium room could do the trick...

Thanks for comments one my guitar playing really apreciate it, I was actually quite satisfied with that in the end. :)

The bass was done by the same guy who did Highway star "remember?" :)

The vox were, a bit hard to do as I still have an irritation in my throath, but its getting better and I`ll soon be up to tricks again, so I might redo the vox on this.

WOW Nakatira!!!

Wow wow wow!

I'm so diggin' this! Very *Stoner-Rockish*! I love it.

The dryness (no room sound) of the drums (to me) gives it a very Uriah Heep and early Iron Maiden feel!

I love this to death! Love the analog vibe! Since your drummer's a hard hitter, a medium 'verb would sound great! Think Bonham! My bass player Scotty (formerly of Kyuss) would love this!

Great effin job brother!

Thanks man, really apreciate this positive feedback, I`m gonna try some Medium verb and see how it goes, I heard it was a bit dry as well after the guys pointed it out. :)
I`m a bit hung up in the Prog rock sound, but I guess a little verb wouldent kill the song :D .

Kyuss is the favorite band of my drummer he`s all stoner, he always said the song reminded him of them.

I Love Uriah Heep theire among my most loved band, theire vocalist David byron is one of my biggest Vocal hero`s.
and there is some maiden resemblance in lots of the solo parts, I havent heard to much of theire music, but the little I`ve heard told me that some of those solo parts were quite simular.

I`ve always been a sucker for harmony guitar, ever since I heard Old Brian Harold May bursting out of the stereo. :)

again thanks everyone for great review, and Rami who mentioned Blackmore leads "I`m not worthy" :o :D

Dude...

If you like the way you mixed your track; fuck what everybody thinks! You mixed it the way YOU wanted to... that's the bottom line!

So what if it's dry!!! It's dry cuz you wanted it dry! Of course you're supposed to do things that would "better the song", but in this tracks' case, dryness is actually capturing the "feel" of your Uriah Heepish drive wouldn't you agree? (dontcha like how I pegged your inspiration!? :D )

If you're not into adding any verb or other wetness to your tracks, dude... don't do it at all!

BE THE PRODUCER AND ACT AS IF!!!

You've got a pretty damn good talent going on there buddy and the tools are in your garage and you apperantly know how to use them well; use them as an extension of your creativity, not as a typical "recording device"!

Sure, almost anyone can record a band; it takes talent to add *character* to tape and you my friend have definitely added your character!

I suggest you say: 'No... FUCK YOU Phil, I don't want any reverb on my drums and you can take your reverb and shove it up your ass!!!!'

Great work Nakatira. I'm very, very impressed!

Well thank you Phil, I`m gonna try a mix with some reverb and see what I think, if it dosent fit I`ll keep it Porrgish and lovley :D

I noticed that this drummer might be better of with reverb, as I used this dry sound with an other drummer, but he was way more displined and delicate with his playing, and I loved the way it sounded with him.
So maybe the verb works for him.
"I know what I like and I lie what I know" :D but seriously I really love the sounds of the 70`s especially prog, but I also love the early heavy metal sound like Deep Purple, Sabbath, and Heep.

I think deep purple always had some verb\room sound on theire stuff.
From what I`ve read Ian Paice used to walk around the entire Building they recorded in to find his sound and if it was in a toilet the kit would be assembled there.

But I would never tell anyone to fuck off, unless they like "punk" :D

I really love getting feedback from all of you guys in here it really builds me up, as I`m quite new in the field of recording I need all the help I can get.

and jugding from the recording you just posted it shows you know what youre doing and I really am Obliged by your comments.

thanks agian;; Naka :)

killer tune. I like the drums (and everthing else). Great vox. I wouldn't re-do them. The song's done. Goes into a great jam part there....you guys are getting your rock on. I'd almost like to hear some vox over the latter part of the jam part thing, something kind of in the background in the style of Yes or something. "Heavy" is a weird word anymore though. When I saw the title of the post I was thinking cookie monster death metal. This has a lot more class....

Hey Nakatira, this rocks man!I was kinda reminded of early Alice Cooper in the beginning, from like the Killers album...this really kicks when the vocals start,I agree with Dogman that it could use a bit more power in the mix...maybe drums? You have a unique style and I really enjoy hearing your stuff...keep it up!!!!

I am sorry but this is by no means heavy to me.....none the less it sounds cool......

really dig it, drums do sound different from the last stuff ive heard from you but I think they're acceptable for sure. So far between this, the last deep funeral song and the immigrant song cover you are definitely getting some plays on my comp here. great stuff

take care

Thanks for the kind words man, I`m going to try the drums with reverb, and see what comes out.
If I dont like I`ll stick with the bone dry.

we did have some more vox in the back in the ending before, we just sorta left it out maybe for the worst.

and I agree heavy is a very nice word, but If you look at it the right way a 30 year old ford is still a ford, it was a ford before the fords who are fords today.
I mean Sabbath\heep\Purple\ are the first Heavy Metal bands, thats why I`ve always called it Heavy, even if there is a newer model on the market. :)

I think the word Heavy metal was first used by Steppenwolf in theire song ; Born to be Wild;;; you know "heavy metal thunder" :)

Is the song not available for downloading, or am I missing something on the little popup screen? Perhaps you're putting an album together to sell?
